WELCOME TO RUTIZ FARMS
U- PICK OPPORTUNITIES THIS WEEK
Two u-picks offered for this week on the farm:
The u-pick is available during our regular farm stand hours...Tuesday thru Friday, noon to 6 and Saturday, 10 to 4.
To celebrate our great tasting bi-color sweet corn,
free roasted sweet corn for everyone that comes by this
Saturday, Sept. 7, noon to 3 pm. Jerry will bar-b-q up ears of our tasty corn...the only requirement to get your free ear of roasted corn is you must take a minute and sit down at our farm stand, relax, and enjoy the tastes of fresh summer corn...no "take home" ears!
Ever wonder what is Jicama and how do you eat it...this
Friday, Sept. 6, we will be giving out samples of our own Jicama paired with watermelon, pineapple and a hint of chili powder. Lupe, the wife of my field foreman ( Raul ) will be giving out free samples and answering questions about this crop that her and her husband raise on our farm.
A WORD ABOUT OUR RASPBERRIES AND BLACKBERRIES:
This time of the year, it becomes apparent that there may be some fruit fly larva inside some of the berries. If you are not planning to eat the berries the same day that you purchase them at our stand...please put the basket in the refrigerator when you get home. By keeping the berries cold, if there happens to be larva in the fruit, they won't be able to develop ( and thus you won't notice them). The fruit fly larva are not harmful to eat...they are just one of the "perks" of organically grown berries!
If anybody has some
Meyer lemons growing on their backyard tree...we would be happy to buy them from you... so we could offer them to our customers at our farm stand. Write me an email at Jerry@Rutizfarms.com to set up delivery details.

WHAT'S IN THE HARVEST BOX THIS WEEK
Grown on our farm using organic farming
methods :jicama, potatoes, cauliflower, tomatoes, beans, corn, raspberries, blackberries, salad mix, cucumbers, peppers and carrots.
Our Jicama is crunchy, mild, and sweet, and is often served with a little lime juice and chile powder to accompany Mexican dishes. Wash off the dirt and peel the outer skin and then you are ready to go! My favorite way is to cut it up into "sticks" and use the jicama raw as a "dipping" vegetable.
