Rx for Resilience: Anticipate

I have been writing newsletters for GlobalMindED for almost a year now. Throughout the length of this time, I have had the privilege and honor of working with some incredible humans. I have interviewed influential leaders from around the world, met with politicians, authors, policy makers, allies and passionate individuals advocating for equitable practices in all sectors. I have listened to the stories of CEOs and leaders from Amazon, NASA, Microsoft, countless Universities, and diverse non-profits. Every day I remain in awe at the lives of the humans I meet.

What has stood out to me about so many of these interviews is that regardless of one's long list of life achievements or high titles in their field, we all share so much in common. At the root of each inspiring leader is a community that supports them. Most success does not come without trials, and there is always something that I can identify with in every interview I give. A beautiful reminder that after all, we are all human.

Sharing a space with such brilliant leaders is inspiring and fills me with hope. Hope for the work they are continuing to do, hope for the work that I now can imagine is actually within my realm of possibility, and hope for the future and those who will grow into even more incredible leaders.

As we near the GlobalMindED Conference on June 22 - 24, I am filled with a growing anticipation. Finally, I will be able to meet those I have been interviewing virtually. To those of you who were unaware as to just how diverse and astonishing the speakers, presenters and attendees will be at this Conference, I am here to warn you to prepare yourself. You will be surrounded by greatness and by people devoted to improving our world for EVERY human. There is much to anticipate and be excited for in these next two weeks.

Now, not only do I work as the editor for GlobalMindED, but I also am a teacher. Having spent time teaching online, navigating the classroom with uncertain schedules, helping students overcome emotional challenges related to isolation and wearing masks, I am beyond excited to participate in a conference where I can physically gather and be present in a community with others. I imagine many of you all also share the Zoom-fatigue I have felt the past year...

My anticipation to finally meet the wonderful people I have interviewed and to gather with other allies and advocates for change is coupled with the anticipation of returning to the United States - as I am currently living and teaching in Spain. I am beyond grateful for the community GlobalMindED has worked hard to create and that such an inclusive, diverse, inspiring space exists. I believe that sustainable changes to our community only come through community itself. This Conference exists to provide us with that community - one in which the pursuit of equity for all is prioritized and where support and allyship are interwoven into every space.

Today, join me and my anticipation for June 22nd. How fitting that the Conference will kick-off with the Award Ceremony Dinner for the Inclusive Leader Awards! To those reading, I look forward to meeting you all in person at the Conference in a couple weeks.

I invite you all to come share your story with me at the Conference and am excited for you to be a part of this community! Hasta pronto!
