Rx for Resilience: Fathers Day
This Father’s Day, we celebrate the strength, wisdom, and steady presence of fathers and father figures everywhere. Whether through quiet support, daily sacrifice, or bold leadership, their guidance shapes families, communities, and the future.
Father’s Day, as a national holiday in the U.S., has its roots in the early 20th century. Inspired by the success of Mother’s Day, Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, sought to honor her own father—a Civil War veteran and single parent who raised six children on his own. The first official Father’s Day was celebrated in 1910. However, it wasn’t until 1972, during the Nixon administration, that it was formally recognized as a federal holiday. Over the decades, Father’s Day has evolved into a broader celebration of paternal influence—honoring not only biological fathers but also stepfathers, grandfathers, mentors, and all who take on a fathering role in someone’s life.
At GlobalMindED, we honor those who uplift and inspire the next generation—whether through parenting, mentorship, teaching, coaching, or advocacy. These are the men who model resilience, pass down wisdom, and provide a sense of safety and direction in a world that often demands courage and compassion.
Fathers and father figures help lay the foundation for leadership by instilling values that endure—responsibility, empathy, perseverance, and hope. Their presence resonates through generations, reminding us that leadership often begins in the home and ripples outward through everyday acts of care.
To all the fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, mentors, and role models: thank you. Your influence stretches far beyond your own lives and into the futures you help build.
Happy Father’s Day from all of us at GlobalMindED.
