Rx for Resilience: Learn to Love and Love to Learn
Isabelle C. Hau’s new book, Love to Learn: The Transformative Power of Care and Connection in Early Education, offers a compelling reimagining of how we approach early childhood learning and learning at all ages and stages. Drawing from neuroscience, personal experience, and global research, Hau argues that nurturing relationships are not just beneficial—they are essential for healthy brain development, emotional resilience, and lifelong success.
Hau introduces the concept of “relational intelligence” (RQ), advocating for a shift from traditional, test-focused education to a model where love and connection are foundational to learning. She highlights the alarming decline in children's social bonds—due to factors like smaller families, increased screen time, and reduced free play—and calls this a “relational scarcity” crisis.
The book also explores the role of technology in children's lives, cautioning against “junk tech” that hinders human connection, and promoting “relationally responsible tech” that supports meaningful interactions.
Love to Learn is more than a critique; it’s a hopeful blueprint for educators, parents, policymakers and “village” leaders to rebuild learning environments centered on care and connection. Hau’s vision is clear: by prioritizing relationships, we can unlock every person’s full potential.
The book was published on February 11, 2025, by PublicAffairs and is available in hardcover and eBook formats on Amazon. It is a bright light that can accelerate the illumination of our communities, country and world at this important time in history.
Isabelle Hau will be speaking at the GlobalMindED 2025 conference and hosting a book signing on the afternoon of June 17, 2025 from 4:30-5:30.
