Rx for Resilience: Unity
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."
– The New Colossus* by Emma Lazarus for the Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is our American symbol of embracing all people of different backgrounds, beliefs, and ideologies with unity through freedom and opportunity. The strength in our union bridges and transforms differences into a powerful force for progress and resilience. By fostering connection, compassion, and collaboration we can overcome challenges and build a future for all based on respect and common ground.
Today marks the first day of what we hope will be a lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. We hold hope for the safe release of hostages and send our love and energy to all who have lost homes, families and loved ones. We will work towards mutual respect and unity in the region, enabling this treaty to endure, for hearts and minds to heal, and for peace to prevail.
In Syria, we share high hopes for unity under emerging leadership. Stabilizing the nation and establishing enduring governance will require collective strength and vision.
We honor the determined, steadfast unity demonstrated by the indefatigable Los Angeles emergency workers and citizens in the face of the ongoing fires and we stand with them through this until the fires are out and states and countries help this great American city rebuild.
We draw inspiration from New York City’s resilience after 9/11, where leaders and neighbors came together to rebuild when Americans of all walks of life declared "I am an American"
As we remember and honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy tomorrow, his call for unity, and hope to be judged on the content of our character reminds us to embody courage and commitment to our highest ideals—starting with unity within ourselves.
Finally, as a new chapter begins with the swearing-in of President Trump, we face a divided nation. Yet now, more than ever, it is time to come together—to bridge differences, rebuild trust, and move forward as one people.
The Statue of Liberty is a unity icon of United States democracy, ideals, and values at home and worldwide. Despite the ever-changing state of the nation, we can all hold tight to America's promise of equality, respect each other's differences, and acknowledge that we are all Americans.
Let’s remember who we are, who we want to become and the country and the world that we know we can create based on all we have been given, with unity as our driving force.
