Reflections - God's Protection
While David was in California, we experienced issues accessing one of the external hard drives where we'd been storing data the last few years. Upon walking into the office, there was a weird smell. As close as we could tell, it was a cross between dust, something electrical and even something sweet at times. We opened the windows to try to "clear the air" but each time we closed the office up and came in again, the smell would be there. We tried multiple times during the course of those days to discover where the smell was coming from but were unable to pinpoint it. After David returned to the office, he tried to get the external drive up and running and found that the battery back-up the unit is attached to was turned off. (For those of you unfamiliar with battery back-ups, the battery back-up unit is designed to give power and protect equipment when power goes out). He powered it on, only to have it turn itself back off. Right before it did however, he noticed it reported the batteries were no good so he took the lid off in order to replace the batteries. In the process, he discovered that he was unable to remove the batteries as they were very swollen and had melted wires and plastic inside the battery back-up unit. Eventually, the unit was disconnected and taken out of service. That could have ended very differently.
We are so thankful for God's protection as that could very easily have started a fire. Had the safety measures not kicked in and the circuit shut down, we could have had major catastrophic damage. How often does God protect us in our daily lives when we do not even realize it. We are also thankful for passages like 1st Peter 1 which says, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable, undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." The passage goes on to talk about various trials that are distressing the people of that time. What a great comfort it is to read and know that those who have placed their faith in Jesus and received redemption through the blood of Christ, are not only protected by the power of God while here on this earth but will one day share the promise and glory of heaven.
