MSMC Launches Summer Classes with the Rec Department!

We kicked off our June classes with the Pascagoula Recreation Department this past week! Over 40 children learned about mapmaking and made treasure maps! As you can see above, some kids even "distressed" their maps to make them look older and well worn!

One of our 12 year old students drew the below treasure map. He said he likes to draw maps at home as a hobby, so he was right at home expressing his creativity here at the Center!

A Visit from the MDAH!

A group of museum professionals from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History made a visit to the MSMC on Wednesday to discuss future plans for the Center moving forward! They were impressed with our now COMPLETED exhibit arena, and we were excited to have them stop by!

World Ocean Day was June 8, 2023!

You can read more about World Ocean Day here!

Show our coastlines some love and celebrate our ocean!

Picture taken by Dick Dixon, a friend of the Maritime Center!

Mr. Dixon writes: "Over a period of years, Doug Jackson built S/V Seeker in Tulsa, OK and navigated her down the river systems to the Gulf of Mexico. Touted as "The Boat the Internet Built", you can tune in to their YouTube Channel to watch the boat being built. People from all over the country and world joined in to lend a hand during its construction. Seeker is a Chinese junk design.

Seeker is currently anchored in Big Lagoon near Pensacola Pass. I took this photograph last week as I was crossing the lagoon to an anchorage at the eastern edge."
