FEBRUARY 2026

Since 1989 SACC-DC has offered a platform for developing U.S. – Swedish commercial ventures and professional opportunities through our network, business and social events. The SACC-DC Newsletter will help you stay on top of what’s happening in the Swedish-American business community and find the perfect opportunity to create new business connections in the greater Washington D.C. area and including Maryland and Virginia.

WORDS FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear friends of SACC-DC,

With last week’s U.S. Supreme Court decision to invalidate the President’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (“IEEPA”), the trade landscape remains unpredictable. In this Newsletter, our esteemed corporate member Pillsbury and their trade team share some of their immediate insights following the Supreme Court’s decision.

To promote the Swedish–American trade relationship, the Embassy of Sweden has re‑established two advisory functions: one agricultural advisor and one defense industry advisor. We look forward to properly introducing them to the SACC‑DC community. During an introductory meeting with the agricultural advisor, he emphasized Sweden’s eagerness to increase its export of food products to the United States. I welcome SACC-DC members to engage with that immediate opportunity.

Last month, I had the pleasure of visiting the Nordic‑Baltic constituency office at the World Bank for an engaging meeting with some Swedish representatives. They expressed a strong desire for increased participation by Swedish companies in World Bank-funded public procurement processes. They recognized that the current criteria are, from a competitive standpoint, potentially somewhat uneven from a Western trade perspective, but they also noted that recent changes of the procurement framework have made these criteria more favorable for Swedish and other Western companies, putting more weight to quality and sustainability.

Within SACC‑DC, we are in the midst of updating our membership directory. Once completed, it will enhance networking opportunities for all our members. You can read more about this in the Newsletter.

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming both Nordic Investin Group and Aimpoint as new members. In this edition, we are featuring a more in‑depth presentations about these companies.

Regarding events, on March 3, SACC‑DC – together with SACC‑LA, SACC‑NY, SACC‑NE, SACC‑Chicago, and NorCham – will host a webinar on wealth management paired with Scandinavian cross‑border challenges. In short: if you are a Swedish citizen permanently residing in the United States, be sure to tune in.

On April 21, the annual Nordic Innovation Forum will take place. The event is organized jointly with NorCham and the Embassies of Sweden, Norway, and Finland (the host of this year’s forum). This year’s focus will be on commercial and trade opportunities in emerging technologies related to drones and autonomous vehicles on future battlefields. The planning is still ongoing, but high‑ranking military personnel, private‑sector leaders, and representatives from national procurement agencies are among the expected participants. If your company would like visibility in connection with this event, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at robert.andersson@sacc-dc.org.

On May 1, SACC‑USA will launch its annual Executive Forum at the House of Sweden. During the event, various strategic leaders will share their perspectives on trade risks and opportunities in light of Sweden’s 250 years of friendship with the United States. Seating for this event is limited; if you are interested in securing a spot, please contact the CEO of SACC‑USA at karin.hammar@sacc-usa.org

Now, as I conclude this introduction, a shout-out to our corporate member SAS. I often take the Metro home in DC and find it especially pleasant to see SAS’scommercial posters placed throughout the Metro cars. Brings back nice memories from Scandinavia. In the unlikely event you haven’t been there, please go. SAS has direct flights from Dulles Airport! As a not totally irrelevant bonus, Scandinavian airports usually have better snow‑plowing capabilities than most U.S. airports.

Warm regards,

Robert Andersson

Executive Director

NEW MEMBERS

We are proud to introduce Nordic Investin as a new corporate member of SACC-DC!

As part of their welcome, we recently sat down with Cihan Viviera, Board Member of Nordic Investin, to discuss the company’s journey, the challenges of operating in the U.S. market, future growth plans, and advice for other Nordic companies considering expansion across the Atlantic. We are delighted to have Nordic Investin join our network and look forward to supporting their continued growth and engagement within the SACC-DC community.

Tell us about Nordic Invest In – what is your mission?

Nordic Invest In Group is a corporate group with four main business areas: education, IT/tech, finance and economics, and sustainability. The group consists of around 20 companies, with operations in the United States (Miami), Sweden, Denmark, and Switzerland, with the majority based in Sweden.

We operate within the education sector, running business schools that will welcome their first students this fall in Sweden. We also provide education and training for companies and industries in AI, automation, and machine learning. We are currently recruiting actively for our Miami office, which has been established for about one year.

Differences between the Swedish and American markets?

There are significant differences, especially culturally. Communication in the U.S. is much faster and more direct — it’s very “here and now,” and negotiations move quickly toward closing. In Sweden, it’s more common to say, “Take your time and get back to us if you’re interested,” whereas in the U.S., you’re often expected to make or receive an offer immediately.

The U.S. is a large country, so differences also vary depending on the region. It’s challenging but exciting. We are growing a lot — both as an organization and as individuals — because everything works differently.

Future plans?

We do not want to grow too fast, as rapid expansion can create growing pains and make it difficult to maintain structure and financial stability. Since we are primarily self-funded, we prefer a more sustainable pace. What matters most to us is that our colleagues are aligned with the mission and understand the market. Employee well-being is what ultimately drives strong results and long-term sustainability. We also want to expand further within sustainability.

Why expand in the U.S.?

There is currently a strong focus on AI, and Nordic Invest In has educators around the world. The U.S. is investing heavily in AI, which makes it a very attractive and dynamic market. We are not aiming to create the next Spotify; rather, we want to help and simplify everyday life for people, working with smaller groups rather than trying to become a massive global player. Our colleagues work extensively with recruitment, and in that field, geographic location matters less.

We see similar challenges around the world, and collaboration is essential. Working globally has opened our eyes to the importance of cooperation and to how many Swedes are living and working abroad.

Advice for other Swedish companies looking to expand:

Don’t rush. Take the time to understand the market and truly understand your customer. We have conducted extensive target group analyses. The opportunities are enormous — but don’t be greedy.

Advice for Young Professionals at the start of their careers:

Join us — we need people!

Keep an open mind. Listen more than you speak, and be open to new impressions and perspectives.

U.S. Supreme Court Blocks Presidential Tariffs Under IEEPA

Pillsbury's Global Trade and Sanctions Blog posted: On February 20, 2026, the Supreme Court of the United States issued a 6–3 decision holding that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) does not authorize the President to impose tariffs. The Court reaffirmed that the Constitution assigns tariff authority to Congress and invalidated the tariffs that had been imposed under IEEPA, including reciprocal tariffs and duties tied to the fentanyl national emergency.

The ruling is broad and categorical, effectively preventing the use of IEEPA as a legal basis for future tariffs.

The case now returns to the United States Court of International Trade (CIT) to address next steps, including the scope of relief and potential refunds of duties already paid.

However, the Supreme Court did not provide guidance on how refunds will be handled, and further litigation is expected.

At the same time, the administration has announced plans to pursue new or increased tariffs under alternative statutory authorities, meaning additional trade measures could be introduced in the near term.

Sweden’s first comprehensive AI strategy aims for top-10 ranking

Sweden has launched a new, comprehensive national AI strategy aimed at becoming one of the world’s top 10 AI nations. The strategy takes a holistic approach, creating better conditions for businesses, research, and the public sector while promoting responsible, secure AI and stable international rules.

The Government plans to improve public services through AI, simplify regulations for businesses, and make major investments in research — including the largest research funding package in Sweden’s history with a strong focus on AI. Measures include AI initiatives across more than 100 government agencies, new legislation to enable better data sharing, and streamlined permit processes for companies.

Additional actions include appointing a national AI coordinator for Swedish language models, strengthening international AI cooperation, expanding digital infrastructure such as subsea cables, and launching “Team Sweden AI” to enhance Sweden’s global AI position.
