Greetings from Houston,
It's difficult to realize, that less than half a year ago, we had Harvery  making landfall in the Houston area. Harvey was a brutal reminder of how small we are as humans in relation to the power of the nature. Yet the fantastic spirit "Houston Strong " was an encouraging reminder of the strength humans can develop when they come together. It was amazing to see how people from all over US came to help. Harvey dispensed so much water over American soil that it caused the Earth's crust to give way and sink 2 cm under the weight. That is a lot of power.

Some of our friends are still suffering from the  damages and the Swedish American networks  comes together and try to help. I heard on the news this morning that there are still 2,300 households staying at hotels and alternative homes waiting for  their homes to be  fixed. It was like pulling the emergency break on all activities and many businesses had to relocate and find new ways of working the daily tasks. SACC Houston was not an exception and many of our activities had to be cancelled. Business Mixer with the Nor dic Chambers and a visit from the Nordic Ambassadors, had to be cancelled.

But as Houston did, also SACC Houston is coming back strong. 2018 is a very busy year and we have started in a high-speed tempo. The yearly Golf tournament in early February was a very cold experience but very happy players enjoyed the game. The PeaSoup is in full swing and we have a new event coordinator Marianne Bergstrand-Reiersgard who is committed to develop the program.

Houston is bubbling of activities this time of the year, the Rodeo se ason just started in end of February. OTC (Offshore technology Conference) is coming up in the end of April. OTC always attracts a lot of Swedish companies to Houston.
SACC Texas has been given the opportunity to host the SACC USA Summit this year in October 25-26. This is a fantastic opportunity to present SACC Texas and the business opportunities we have in Texas for the rest of the SACC network. We can expect to have representatives from all 19 Swedish-American chambers in USA and Sweden coming to Houston. And we are very happy to welcome the new Ambassador of Sweden to the United States, H.E. Karin Olofsdotter to the Summit. The Summit will be focusing on Swedish Clean Tech Innovation - Driving sustainability, resiliency & resource efficiency. A very hot topic in Houston these days.
So, stay tuned for a very exciting 2018 in Houston/Texas
