Committee Update
C. J. Woods, President-Elect

Greetings SACSA Colleagues,

The new academic year is upon us! Each year brings new challenges and opportunities for learning and understanding with regard to the social, cultural, and geopolitical norms on our campuses. As we ease back into the minutia of our day-to-day responsibilities, how do we mentally and physically prepare ourselves to transition from summer schedules and workloads to the rigors of the "fall" semester?

In my role as President-Elect, I have the honor of serving in a shadow role to our current President and take the pulse of our association as we move forward to build upon the mission and goals of SACSA.  I also have the privilege of observing and learning from the leadership of our Executive Board members, who are some of the best at what they do. I am amazed at the talent, expertise, wisdom, and creativity that we have at our disposal in SACSA. The willingness of our members to serve and volunteer is what makes SACSA authentically unique.

This time of year, I constantly remind myself of words of wisdom from one of my mentors. "As student affairs professions, we do a great job of taking care of others and not ourselves." Colleagues, as we embark upon another year, be mindful of your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Draw upon the SACSA network when challenges arise that may require a village approach or response. We exist and thrive as an association because of you...the strength of our association is its membership. Have a great semester and I look forward to seeing you in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina!

My best,

CJ Woods
President-Elect

Dr. Larry Correll-Hughes
Dr. Larry Correll-Hughes
Assistant Vice President for Campus Life and Student Success & Executive Director of Residential Living and Learning
Stetson University
Dr. Correll-Hughes became involved in SACSA in 2010 at the encouragement of his colleagues. He was interested in attending a more general Student Affairs association and SACSA's size and region appealed to him. Additionally, he enjoyed engaging with professionals at various levels and in a variety of functional areas. SACSA was a perfect fit! He states that SACSA was a huge support to his dissertation work. The SACSA membership served as his survey sample and thanks to their participation he was able to present his findings the following year. When asked what has been the greatest benefit of his SACSA membership, Dr. Correll-Hughes is currently working on a new initiative at Stetson University to integrate residential living learning communities to be a more inclusive campus. Additionally, his campus is renovation their student union which will open in January. He's excited to see how it will transform their campus!
