SAFE HARBOR CHILDREN'S CENTER
FALL NEWSLETTER 2018
Safe Harbor is our community’s home for children in need of a safe, loving environment; a place where they are treated like family. We offer shelter, aid, counsel and comfort.
VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION BREAKFAST
Last month, we held a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast, graciously sponsored by our friends at Georgia Power. Volunteers are so vital to Safe Harbor's success -- we could not do what we do without our volunteers! Their roles include board members, tutors, art teachers, Secret Santas and rape crisis hotline volunteers. All are a blessing to Safe Harbor!

This year's Volunteer of the Year was Madelynne Risi. Through her job at the Bridge Mission Program of St. Simons Presbyterian Church, she has brought hundreds of volunteers (youth groups) to Safe Harbor during the summer months. Plus, in the past year, Madelynne logged over 1500 hours monitoring our Rape Crisis Hotline! This is a huge help to both victims and our staff! To all of our volunteers, THANK YOU!
PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT: Family Preservation
Safe Harbor's Family Preservation program helps families in crisis to maintain the safety of children in their own home. This program's goal is to keep families intact. Clients are referred to us from the Division of Family and Children Services. Our staff provides in-home counseling, parent support, parent education, individual counseling, transportation and childcare to these families in crisis.
WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES
The "WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES" event was hosted by Safe Harbor's Connie Smith Rape Crisis Center, the College of Coastal Georgia, Amity House and Faithful Love to raise awareness about sexual assault. This is the first time for the event in Brunswick and it won't be the last! We had fabulous support from the community, law enforcement and our own volunteers and employees! Safe Harbor's Connie Smith Rape Crisis Center was directly responsible for getting law enforcement support. Captain Angela Smith (Brunswick Police Department) and Investigator Clay Palmer (Glynn County Police Department) were extremely instrumental in making this event a success. As you can see from this picture of Safe Harbor employee, Dontrell Norman, it's not easy walking a mile in her shoes!
