SAFE SHELTER

THROUGH COLLABORATIVE CARE

Event to highlight unique transitional housing program

“Safe Shelter through Collaborative Care” is the theme of a special virtual presentation scheduled for Wednesday, June 29, at 12 noon. The public is invited to hear the moving and eye-opening story of SafePlace – a unique local transitional housing program. To attend on the day of the event, simply click on the Zoom link HERE. (No registration required.) This event is co-sponsored by the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition’s Housing Action Team and Unity Shelter.

Cassandra Robertson, co-leader of the Housing Action Team, will open the program with an overview of how the SafePlace microshelter program came into being. She will be followed by featured speaker Lisa Hawash, MSW, Associate Professor of Practice at Portland State University’s School of Social Work, who will present an assessment of the SafePlace program that includes demographic data, feedback from SafePlace clients who were interviewed about their experience, and recommended changes.

Before opening the event to audience questions, Shawn Collins, Executive Director of Unity Shelter, will briefly explain how the community can help support SafePlace.

“It’s our hope that this event will help inform community members about the challenges faced by those among us who are experiencing houselessness – and about the value of collaboration as we seek solutions,” explained Robertson.

The public is encouraged to be part of the conversation.
