Cassandra Robertson, co-leader of the Housing Action Team, will open the program with an overview of how the SafePlace microshelter program came into being. She will be followed by featured speaker Lisa Hawash, MSW, Associate Professor of Practice at Portland State University’s School of Social Work, who will present an assessment of the SafePlace program that includes demographic data, feedback from SafePlace clients who were interviewed about their experience, and recommended changes.
Before opening the event to audience questions, Shawn Collins, Executive Director of Unity Shelter, will briefly explain how the community can help support SafePlace.
“It’s our hope that this event will help inform community members about the challenges faced by those among us who are experiencing houselessness – and about the value of collaboration as we seek solutions,” explained Robertson.
The public is encouraged to be part of the conversation.
