SAFE represents more than 900 of the industry's top aviation educators in 49 states and nine foreign countries, including the majority of Master Instructors and numerous General Aviation Awards winners in all four awards categories. SAFE developed and is now offering Regional Pilot Proficiency Projects across the U.S.

John Dorcey Assumes Interim Executive Director Role

John Dorcey assumed the role of SAFE interim Executive Director effective December 22. "We're so appreciative of John's willingness to lead SAFE as we start a new year with a growing membership, new initiatives and new programs," said SAFE Board of Directors Chair Donna Wilt.

The new interim Executive Director holds an FAA Airline Transport Pilot certificate and is a Certificated Instrument Flight Instructor, both certificates with single and multiengine ratings. He served as Operations Manager for Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh until his retirement in 2012. Previously, he was Chief Pilot for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Chief Instructor for that agency's FAA-approved Flight Instructor Refresher Clinics.

Dorcey has been involved with SAFE since the organization was founded in 2009, serving as a Board member from 2009 to 2013 and as Vice Chair in 2012 and Chair in 2013.

SAFE Presenters at Sun 'n Fun

Need another reason to attend Sun 'n Fun? Have a story or lesson to share? Here's a great opportunity to represent SAFE by doing so. Currently there are openings for forum sessions, and you can speak on any educational aviation topic. Consider sharing your favorite tips or tricks, facts about aircraft ownership, how to grease your landings, flying club management, the challenges of flying the perfect ILS, or any topic that you see as having value to pilots or the aviation community.

Send an email to Joel Walker (educationalforums@hotmail.com) providing the following details: forum title, speaker name, day or days requested, and equipment needs. Answer the following questions:

  •  Will the forum qualify for FAA Wings credit?
  •  Will this forum qualify for FAA/IA renewal credit?
  • Is this a Sport Pilot, LSA, iPad, Type Club, Youth, or Alternate Engine forum?

Joel will respond with your schedule.

Once your forum is scheduled, please send Jack Vandeventer (jack@masterinstruction.com) an email so that he can compile a list of SAFE presenters and their forums.

We look forward to seeing more SAFE members on the forum listing at Sun 'n Fun 2015!

SAFE Appeal a Success!

Several short-term goals for SAFE require funding that frankly, we just don't have. Since charity begins at home, we began our appeal by asking our board for contributions. Every director responded with a donation. Next, we asked you, our members, to help fund these efforts. Many of you generously responded. Thank you.

Remember SAFE is a 501(c)3 entity and as such donations toSAFE are tax deductible. Discuss with your tax advisor methods to gain full benefit from all your charitable donations.
