Only a Few Weeks Left Until AirVenture (Oshkosh) 2013!
With only a few weeks left until the start of AirVenture, SAFE is gearing up for one of the most exciting weeks we have ever had there. For starters we have moved our tent location to the Education Interactive Zone where we will be in space 35, just across James Ray Blvd from College Park. Our Pilot Proficiency Project™ will be taking place inside the College Park tent, with simulator sessions and forums being conducted every day.
Our 5th Annual Dinner /Meeting, sponsored by Starr Aviation, Aviation Insurance Resources, and AOPA , will be held in the Oshkosh Airport Terminal building on Thursday, August 1st, beginning at 6:00PM. The menu will be our popular Italian Buffet along with beer, wine and soft drinks. We are compiling a fantastic assortment of door prizes that will be raffled during the dinner, including 2 FIRCs from King Schools, a Deluxe iPad Flight Desk and the Cross County Backpack from Sporty's, and many, many more wonderful items. During the meeting we will award the annual SAFE Founder's Award and Service Award, and hear a report of all of SAFE's accomplishments during the past year, as well as what's coming up in store as we move forward. I doubt that you will want to miss this event, so please register now to reserve seats for you and your guests.
For those of you who have the desire and time to volunteer your expertise and services to SAFE we have several opportunities for you during AirVenture. And in exchange for your service we will give you an embroidered polo shirt, and an invite to our volunteer Bar-B-Que which will be held at the SAFE house on Friday evening, Aug. 2nd starting at 6:00 PM. We need volunteers to help staff the SAFE exhibit, greeting folks who stop by, offering them a bottle of cold water and telling them about SAFE. If you can spend a morning or afternoon doing that please let us know. And if you have experience instructing in the Rebird FMX simulator, we are still in need of instructors for the Pilot Proficiency Project. Sign up here if you would like to assist.

Redbird Graduates 1st Class of Certified Instructors
Redbird Flight Simulations held its first class to certify flight instructors for teaching in the Redbird FMX simulator over the weekend of June 15 - 16. The class, taught by Josh Harnegal, marketing director for Redbird, was held in the Skyport facilities in San Marcos, TX. The syllabus included: Overview of Redbird software & hardware; "How we view the simulator"; The MIGRATION Flight Training Method; Curriculum integration; How the fixed price model works; Using the sim in the real world; Example training sessions; SAFE PPP Mission discussions; and SAFE PPP Practice flights
The first class of graduates was comprised of: Mark Adams, Mike Arcamuzzi, David Cowan, Bill Ervin, Eric Hake, Lonnie Hilkemeier, Andy Miller, Jim Ratliff, Burt Stevens, Jim Stover and Doug Stewart. Enthusiastic comments from participants such as:"I learned more there than I have in a long time"; and " This was so much better than any FIRC I have ever been to" gave credence to the fact that the event was top notch.
Many of the participants will be using the skills they learned over the weekend course to assist SAFE as we expand the Pilot Proficiency Course™ (PPP) out on a National Level. The details of this expanded PPP will be announced during AirVenture.

Food, Forum & Flight Safety Program
Fifty pilots and guests recently gathered at the Cascade Airport (U70) in Cascade, Idaho for a Food, Forum & Flight Safety Program hosted by SAFE member Rich Stowell and the Boise FAASTeam. The crisp morning began with a breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, and pancakes, then transitioned into a rapid-fire, 45-minute talk on stall/spin awareness followed by a live spin demonstration over the airport using a Super Decathlon.
Participants observed from the ground as Stowell performed a total of eight spin departures. Stowell talked through the spins over the radio to handhelds on the ground, one of which was positioned next to a microphone hooked up to a loudspeaker.
Cockpit video shot during the spin demos has been distilled to 3-3/4 minutes and is available on Stowell's YouTube channel:
The program was successful enough that a second annual Food, Forum & Flight Safety Program may be planned for next year.
