Progress Report - ARAC Working Group
| |
The Airman Testing Standards and Training Working Group ARAC continues to make significant progress. With more than half of the industry members also SAFE members, the ARAC is wrapping up work on the Private and Instrument Airman Certification Standards (ACS), and will transmit these to the FAA with a recommendation for publication for notice and comment in the Federal Register.
SAFE believes that implementation by FAA of these recommendations will elevate the training and testing of airman to a higher level of knowledge, skill, and risk management, while contributing to a reduction in our fatal accident rate.

Hendershot served ably as the Executive Director of the AMTSociety since 2007. His service to the aviation industry as a whole spanned more than five decades, and his passion for promoting the craft of aviation maintenance was ever present.
Like the Energizer Bunny, Hendershot kept on going and going. His experience and commitment to quality aviation education and safety remained beyond reproach. He truly represented the crme de la crme of the aviation industry. SAFE will truly miss his wisdom, good humor and advice, and we send our heartfelt condolences to his family.

Update - SAFE Mentoring Program
| |
Bridgette Doremire is New Program Chair
New Aviation Educator Mentoring Program program chair Bridgette Doremire recently announced that "over the coming months, we expect to streamline the application and mentoring process, allowing more functions to be performed entirely online, as well as adding program reporting points for mentor-mentee pairs, encouraging better communications, and allowing us to better serve the needs of our members."
Doremire noted the committee has been backlogged in responding to emails over the past year. Therefore, the program application will be updated to include a short biography of mentor applicants, as well as the best contact method and contact times for possible follow-up questions. "Don't be scared of the biography request," Doremire said, "we'll have an easy-to-complete template to make things easier for our mentor applicants."
As the refinements are implemented, current mentors and applicants will be asked to review their application/profile. This will eventually be requested of all mentors annually. Doremire noted, "Members move, earn new ratings, change specializations, and offer access to more aircraft, continuously, so this will provide an opportunity to keep SAFE updated regarding everyone's credentials. We will send emails when this part is ready for review."
In the meantime, if you would like to update your credentials or contact information, or wish to volunteer for this committee or become a mentor, please email Bridgette or call 623-282-2341.

Call for SAFE Board Nominations!
| |
Nominations due by 2359 UTC on Friday, March 15th
Every year, SAFE members are given the opportunity to elect directors to their organization's board. Before the election can be held, however, we must complete the nomination process.
SAFE's Governance Committee is now seeking nominations for three board positions. We are especially in need of members who have prior knowledge of non-profit operations, experience in fundraising, and connections within the aviation industry.
You can nominate yourself or someone else provided that person agrees to serve as a director. SAFE directors serve three-year terms, with newly elected board members to be seated during our Annual Membership Meeting at EAA AirVenture 2013 in Oshkosh, WI.
Please email your nomination to John Dorcey, subject SAFE Nominations. Also attach a resume (two pages maximum) highlighting the specific knowledge, skills, and experience you would bring to SAFE as a board member. The board's function and duties are laid out in SAFE's Bylaws.
Nominations must be received no later than
2359 UTC on Friday, March 15, 2013

Raffle Winner Finally Claims Prize
| |
During Sun-n-Fun last year, SAFE culminated a fundraiser with a drawing for a flight in "The LITTLE Witch", a beautifully restored TF-51 Mustang. The winner was SAFE member Ron Vanden Dungen from Canada. We are pleased to announce that Ron claimed his prize last week at Stallion 51 in Kissimmee, FL. |
Lucky Winner Ron Vanden Dungen
|
Judging by the smile plastered on Ron's face, he seemed pretty pleased with his prize! This unique opportunity was made possible through the incredible generosity of SAFE member and "The LITTLE Witch" owner, Jim Goodwin and the fine folks at Stallion 51. But you don't have to own a Mustang to help SAFE raise funds! You can help your organization with a tax-deductible donation at any time via the "Donations" link provided on the SAFE store webpage.
