March 11, 2020

Dear SAGA School Parents and Community Members,

I am writing to let you know that we have made the difficult decision to close the SAGA School effective tomorrow, March 12, 2020, with an anticipated return on Thursday, March 26, 2020 . As of today, The SAGA School continues to have no reported or confirmed cases of students, families, or staff with COVID-19 or who have had direct exposure to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Our decision is guided by specific priorities:
Safety - The health and safety of our students and staff is our #1 priority
Stability - We strive to be dependable, thoughtful, and consistent in our practice.

Traditionally, we have used the Seattle Public School district as our guide for making decisions regarding closures. We are also taking into consideration the recommendations from local, regional, and national health organizations, guidance from regional and national independent school associations, and the unique needs of the SAGA Community. This decision is also supported by the SAGA School Board of Directors.

What does this look like for the SAGA Community?

The SAGA School has been preparing for remote learning should the school close. The SAGA Staff will spend the next two days as in-service days, working as a team, to finalize "packets" of learning materials. Starting Monday, March 16, 2020, we will have these materials accessible online along with guidelines on teacher availability via internet or phone. We will finalize options for pickup of materials as well, as we recognize some families may not have access to the internet.

We are committed to providing parents and students with guidance and support on how to maintain a consistent educational experience, although we recognize that the success of remote learning will be greater for some than others.

Next Steps?

SAGA will continue to utilize email, text alerts, the SAGA website, and the SAGA Facebook page to communicate updates.

SAGA will continue to reassess the situation and update plans as necessary and as recommended.

The SAGA School would like to continue following the precautions below:

  • If your child is showing signs of illness and has possibly been exposed to a patient with COVID-19, please notify The SAGA School: 206-442-2023 or
  • If any member of your household is diagnosed with COVID-19 please notify The SAGA School as well: 206-442-2023,
These measures are important to protect the health of the greater SAGA Community.

Thank you for your understanding during these unique times. If you have questions for the school, please email Anjanette Gonzales at or the School Office at
