"On January 18th, the kindergarten through third graders ventured to the school forest for the first time in the new year. SAGES learners checked the food they took to the forest in December. Half of the strung Cheerios were eaten, and all the sunflowers had been eaten off the bird feeders. The students discovered the Cheerio strings closer to the ground were all eaten so they chose to move the higher strings to lower areas. Then, they read a book about animals that migrate, hibernate, and adapt to their environment in the winter. Students then explored their forest trail to see what signs of animals there have been in the area this winter. Lastly, students created animal habitats and are excited to explore them upon their return to the forest. " ~Rachael Smith, first grade teacher
