The Annual Installation & Awards Luncheon was held last Friday at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort. The event recognized the "Best of the Best" in SAHBA and the home building industry.

Awards were given to those who continue to go above and beyond in support of SAHBA and also excel in their own business.

In addition, SAHBA was honored to recognize the Legacy Award & Community Builder Award recipients.

New Board Chairman Tim Staring delivered powerful remarks after being sworn in at the Annual Awards & Installation Luncheon last Friday.

For those who missed it, be sure to take a moment and read about Tim’s strategic vision for 2019 and how it will impact our association, members, community and industry. 

At the Annual Awards Luncheon, SAHBA made a $4,000 contribution to the 2019 Southern Arizona Construction Career Day event. The donation would not have been possible without the support by our members for the Cork & Fork event hosted last fall. 

This year, SAHBA honored two of the most significant contributors in our Association’s history with the Legacy Awards. Steve Canatsey is a true statesman who has given back to SAHBA over four decades. Greg Miedema pioneered the Remodeler’s Council and worked tirelessly to recruit new members.

We also added the Community Builder Award in recognition of individuals or organizations SAHBA partners with to build a better Southern Arizona. Carmine DeBonis was honored for the work he has done as the Director of Pima County Development Services and now as the Deputy County Administrator for Public Works to improve the regulatory and processing environment for builders. The Southern Arizona Construction Career Days was recognized for becoming the premier event for helping students begin a career in the construction industry. 

We are excited to have a great Board and Advisory Council for 2019. These members give their time and talents to keep SAHBA on the right track. The next time you see one, please thank them for their service and share your thoughts and perspective on how SAHBA can continue to deliver value for members.

Pima County Development Services has moved its offices from the first floor to the second floor of the Public Works Building, 201 N. Stone Ave. 

The move was made to accommodate renovations to first-floor offices, which the department has occupied since 1991. The updates are necessary to better serve customers and prepare the office for changes that have occurred in the ways the public is served.
