#1 Women in Construction Week - March 3-9
This week is National Women in Construction Week. The focus of Women in Construction (WIC) Week is to highlight women as a  viable  component of the construction industry.

WIC Week also provides an occasion for NAWIC’s thousands of members across the country to raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry. It is also a time for local chapters to give back to their communities.

#2 We All Benefit from a Better Community
Thanks to member support, we are able to make a positive impact in Southern Arizona:

Supporting Local Students – We are sponsoring two students to attend the LULAC Youth Leadership Conference which promotes the importance of learning and leadership to children and encourages participation by the entire community in education.

Protecting Davis-Monthan AFB – Funds from the Salute to DM Concert at the Cologuard Classic PGA Champions event will go directly to the advocacy efforts for DM. We joined several other local businesses in sponsoring the event.

Home Improvements for Veterans – Through our involvement, Purple Heart Homes has identified several local veterans in need of essential home repairs. The group is in town this week working on two smaller projects. Future projects will be larger and scope and provide an opportunity for direct engagement by members.
#3 Meeting with OV Officials Leads to Positive Dialogue
Last week a group of staff and Board Members met with newly elected Oro Valley Council Member Joyce Jones-Ivey and Town Manager Mary Jacobs. This was the first official meeting with any of the Council Members who assumed office last November.

The meeting was an opportunity to learn about Ms. Jones-Ivey and her perspective on the goals and direction of the Town. It was also a chance for her to get to know SAHBA. We look forward to working with Ms. Jones-Ivey and meeting the other new Council Members.

Andrew Hayes Thanks IBS 2019

A great big thank you to NAHB Young Professionals for the scholarship I received to experience the IBS 2019 show in style.

I truly felt like a VIP. I also want to thank our local SAHBA contingent who went out to IBS 2019. They brought me in and made me feel comfortable with the sometimes overwhelming experience. If you haven't had a chance to go, I highly recommend it. They are already planning for next years show so start planning!
