#1 Marana Proposes Significant Changes to Parks
Town staff recently briefed Mayor & Council on proposed changes to the private, on-site recreation area requirements. The Town’s minimum park area requirement currently is 185 sq. ft per resident with a significant increase to 300 sq. ft per resident proposed.

Staff is also proposing a sliding scale of required recreational area based on density levels of a subdivision. Additional changes include a potential credit for providing specific park amenities and an allowance for retention/detention basins. Given Marana’s significantly higher development fees than other regional jurisdictions, SAHBA staff has communicated the need for stakeholder involvement and that industry input be considered in the final proposal.
#2 City of Tucson Developing Climate Resiliency Plan
Tucson Development Services Director Scott Clark recently outlined a Climate Resiliency Plan to Mayor and Council. While the plan is still a work in progress, the intended goal is to improve the energy efficiency of the built environment.

Currently, the plan focuses on improving energy efficiency of privately-owned existing buildings, privately owned new buildings and City owned buildings. SAHBA staff met with the City’s Chief Building Official for a better understanding how this may impact new home construction. While recognizing new buildings tend to be highly efficient, there remains the expectation that new home construction will need to further improve energy efficiency. The industry will continue to encourage that incentives and possible cost offsets will best help the industry assist the City of Tucson to meet its climate resiliency goals.
#3 Thank You Congressman Biggs!
The home building industry appreciates the support of AZ Congressman Andy Biggs for his continued efforts to advance federal housing policies that promote new home construction. Congressman Biggs routinely receives a high grade from the National Association of Home Builders for his voting record in support of the industry.

SAHBA members Al LeCocq - LeCocq Construction, Tim Staring - TRS Custom Home Builders, Ed Castelhano - Cassmar Development and SAHBA Government Affairs Director Shawn Cote recently met with Congressman Biggs in Tucson to talk housing issues and thank him for his support.
