As 2024 comes to a close, we would like to take this time to

highlight the achievements of the wonderful SAHMA community.

Presidential Perspective

What a year 2024 has been!

This past year was such a rollercoaster ride for us, with the rise and fall of HOTMA, NSPIRE growing pains, employee turnover, natural disasters followed by clean-up and repairs, still rising insurance costs, and the contentious election. Many of us are still wondering how we even made it through, and we have the scars to prove it.

Luckily, through it all, SAHMA has been here with you, providing a solid foundation to stand on. We have been your guiding light with experts who have a working knowledge of the ins and outs of HOTMA. We have been connecting you directly to the regulatory partners in our industry to ask the tough questions and create a stronger partnership between our members and our regulatory partners because we understand that we need each other to ensure our residents have a decent, safe, and sanitary home to live in. We have provided resources to educate your teams on NSPIRE protocols and have facilitated trainings and certifications for your newest employees. While SAHMA can’t control the many external factors impacting our communities, like disasters, rising insurance costs, or broader policy outcomes, our collaboration with NAHMA enables our association to advocate for our communities. Together, we continue to engage with regulators to explore ways to support the long-term sustainability of our industry amidst rising operational challenges.

SAHMA has been this strong, solid rock that is steady and true. A reliable source for information regarding what is happening in our industry, quality education and meetings providing the best training at a very affordable price, and a way to connect our members to each other and to our regulatory partners. We have been true to our mission and remain a strong organization, and we believe we have set ourselves up for success in the future because of it. We hope you will join us in 2025 at our in-person conferences, online trainings, and virtual or in-person regulatory partnership meetings while staying informed by signing up for our bi-weekly SAHMA Update, which provides information about things happening in our industry and emails, which also have friendly calendar reminders about upcoming events. You are not alone in the next year; SAHMA is here with your friends, colleagues, trainers, and regulatory partners to lead you and guide you through whatever changes are on the horizon. I am excited about SAHMA’s future and cannot wait to see you all this coming year!

A Year of Excellence and Learning

Your Voice Matters!

Supporting Affordable Housing Through Grassroots Advocacy

At times the challenges our industry faces are local in nature, and we must work with our state or local leadership to make our voices known. When the issues affect the industry as a whole, and a wider net must be cast. The support of our National Partner, NAHMA, and other industry groups, is critical. Through a coalition of advocates, we are able to provide detailed information and outline the issue for our members. Through this network, connections are made that can help carry our message to decision-makers across the nation. These partnerships prove crucial for sustaining advocacy efforts.

While we rely on these networks to carry our voices in Washington, our voices of support are vital. Grassroots Advocacy is the foundation of change for our nation. Our voices and efforts are key to building and sustaining support for the Affordable Housing Industry. To help support our efforts, NAHMA has a dedicated webpage for providing members with current, easy-to-use tools for participating in grassroots advocacy. With these toolkits, we can take steps to become effective grassroots advocates. To learn more about these resources or to learn more about current urgent issues facing the industry, visit https://www.nahma.org/grassroots-advocacy/.
