BAND DIRECTOR VICTOR DE LOS SANTOS NAMED FINALIST FOR GRAMMY MUSIC EDUCATOR AWARD, FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR
Victor de los Santos, director of bands was named a finalist for the highly-selective Grammy 2020 Music Educator Award, marking the third year in a row that he has made it to the final round of competition.
The annual Music Educator Award recognizes teachers who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in schools.
“I am very honored to be a finalist for the 2020 Grammy Educator of the Year,” Victor said. “What brings me even more pride is having Santa Ana High School next to my name on the nomination. Santa Ana High School is such a vibrant community which makes it fun to work with students.”
The Recording Academy and GRAMMY Museum selected Victor and nine other finalists from among 3,300 nominees nationwide. This year’s winner will be flown to Los Angeles to attend the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards and Grammy Week events.
The nine additional finalists will receive a $1,000 honorarium, and the schools of all 10 finalists will receive matching grants.
Onward one step at a time
"Baby Steps by Baby Steps" and "Chunking" - the Requirements as You Go..."
Wise advice and guidance from "Saint" Counselor Extraordinaire, Arlette Riduott, during the Counseling Center Team's, "Freshman Transcript" presentations. Ms. Riduott's motivating presentation in Ms. Harris' English 9 Class, captured the attention of the students that hung on to every word. The vision and drive present in each one of Donzelle's students, was further ignited as a result of Arlette's presentation. "Together, we are going to make this happen!" "Our Kids" are terrific BECAUSE of our great parents and the arduous work spent shepherding "Our Kids" during the time at Santa Ana High School ... Students like Khon and Margarita will one day represent, their parents, our teachers, the community, and most importantly,
themselves one day.
Legal Studies Academy
Congratulations to Joseph Acevedo and Maria Cortes in being chosen as the Orange County Constitutional Rights Foundation Mock Trial "Pre-Trial Attorney Award Winners".
This is the most highly coveted awards in the competition. The Pre-Trial Attorneys work singularly in a Moot Court setting with complex case law issues. That fact EGMLSA collected two is OUTSTANDING! Joseph won this award for 2nd Year in a row! Maria won it her rookie year. Looking forward to ceremony on February 6th at UCI! Looking forward to both bright students graduating from law school in the future and practicing law.
Reaching a Goal
"Saint" Soccer Rolls Over Tough Estancia High School in First Orange Coast Soccer League Game... 4-0
Coach Joe Penaflor's 296th Win showed as the Saints reveled in yet another victory. Arguably, one of Joe's best squads, there was much to celebrate so early in the season. Saul, Ceasar, Frankie, and Brayan were on fire today as they combined four goals as if they were "playing" with the opposition to finally walk away with the first victory of the league season. Friday, "Our Kids" are back at it as they take on the Panthers of Orange High School.
Bittersweet
Although it Was a Great Game That Ended With a "Saint" Loss. ..
The WIN was actually embedded in the story about "Our Kid" who began this 2nd semester with a 3.1 GPA after struggling last year with a dismal sub-par GPA in the neighborhood of a 0.5 GPA. As his teammates cheered him in a recent practice for one of the greatest miracles and successes of the new year, Coaches Fareed and Mo knew that they would get the most of "Our Kids," not only on the court, but in the classroom as well. Tonight was also a success on the court in that, Estancia High School is projected to be the "team-to-beat," this coming year in the Orange Coast League. With injuries and a sluggish start, "Our Kids" will be ready to challenge anybody with their heart, hard work, pre-season experience, and academic pride.
Congratulations "Saint" Soccer Player, Francisco Mendez, for Being Named - Player of the Game
3rd place finish for Boys Wrestling
"Saint" Wrestling took 3rd at the ASICS So Cal Challenge! Losing to Piedra Vista (1st) from New Mexico and Auburn from Washington State. Highlight of The Weekend was Andres Carrillo Junior. Taking 1st at the ASICS So Cal Challenge and winning the BELT.
Lady "Saints" Wrestling
Canadians Defeated by Lady "Saints" in Costa Mesa Exhibition...
Coach Tim Byers was extremely PROUD of his "Saint" student- athletes. Watching them prepare and train these past several months, he knew they were special and would accomplish BIG things this season. These past few weeks, including the recent blockbuster tournament, team successes and individual "Saints" who placed in the top tiers of rather large competitive tournaments, have created an excitement around the "Lady "Saints " Wrestling Program, like never before. Coach Byers commented that, "I could not be PROUDER of the Team!"
