Back To School Night a Great Success
A wonderful evening spent meeting classroom teachers, counselors and admin team at Santa Ana High School's Back to School Night. It was evident that a lot of care and attention was given to making parents and community members feel welcome. Don't forget Mr. Bishop's promise, " Santa Ana High School Invites Parents to Interact With " Saint Nation " as a Key Player in the " Saint " Family. Every student and Family Matters! "
The Santa Ana High School jazz band has their first gig of the year
The Santa Ana High School jazz band had their first gig of the year for the OC Black Chamber Banquet at the grove of Anaheim. These kids only had 5 rehearsals to prepare for the gig, and they made me proud today. Looking forward to a great year with this new set of jazz band kids
21st Century Teaching and Learning at Santa Ana High School....
The heaviest lift in a school is moving the students towards engagement in a way that when the students walk out of a classroom, they've "experienced" a concept, so therefore, they will understand a concept. Taking LEARNING" to the "APPLICATION" level is both a great school and great teacher! Ms. Dinh, new Math teacher at Santa Ana High School , is both open to new learning and a teacher I would have wanted for my own son and daughter to experience. I am seeing an AMAZING " Saint " staff that recognizes OUR positive approaches and our delivery of engaging and supportive learning, along with socio-emotional attention to our students and the intentionality in PLANNING for ALL students... IS making a HUGE difference. In addition, Cooper Ceda Baca, our new Professional Development Coach, is providing support to our Math and Language Arts teachers. - See for yourself as today was the first part of a two-day lesson to the end of inputs and outputs and graphing the results, based on a activity that the students were engaged (100%) and participating in.
Santa Ana High School's Ballet Folklorico Dancers, Entertain Monarch Beach Resort Crowd...
Prestigious South County, Monarch Beach Resort customers, enjoyed the cultural dances and bright costumes that go along with a talented and entertaining Ballet Folklorico dance group. Because of the " Saints " high demand for performing at venues around Southern California, both Roman Martinez and Yesenia Gardea's young and talented performers are making a name for themselves. Central Santa Ana, SAUSD, Santa Ana High School , and most importantly, themselves and their beautiful culture. The entire " Saint Nation " is beyond PROUD!
Santa Ana Tops Buena Park 33-26 on TD Pass in final minute
" Saints " WIN, 33-26 in Final Minutes -
"They're Going to Grow Up Right in Front of Our Face..."
With only two returning starters, the young " Saints " beat Buena Park High School in the first CIF Varsity Football Game in the newly built Football Stadium. Scoring the first touchdown, Buena Park looked quite powerful and intimidating. Trading touchdowns most of the game and being tied up 20-20 at half time, both teams looked like they were going to make it a "nail- biter" until the final two minutes of regulation time. Initially, the Coyotes of Buena Park seemed that they would end the game on top, until " Saint Nation " remembered who they were as they scored the final touchdown and the extra point to walk away... WINNERS! As the coaching staff nd players walked to the bus after the game, their smiles and looks of relief, framed the night. Coach Tim Smith. quipped, "These young boys are growing up before our eyes!" With only 2 returning starters. a few sophomores (that need additional paperwork because of their young age), and several more underclassmen that have never played a Varsity game prior to tonight's game, the " Saints " will be going up against more seasoned and experience players next week and the week after, against Cypress and then, Aliso Niguel High Schools - both tough, veteran and talented pre-season teams! "Coach Tagantvoort stated that "I cannot wait" in his post game comments. Watching "Our Kids" play hard tonight highlighted a day that had many Examples of the Opportunity and Excellence that Exists at Santa Ana High School on a Daily Basis...
Ms. Sanborn and Ms. Westing's Artists Bring Joy to Kids in Afghanistan and Peru
A non-profit organization called The Memory Project reaches out to children in the world's most war-torn and impoverished communities. Art students in the US draw or paint portraits of these children, which the Memory Project then gifts them. It is a gesture of love and support from a student so far away. We are proud that our beginning as well as advanced students produced these fine keepsakes for needy children so far away!

Dear High School Student:
One of my favorite duties as a Member of Congress is nominating CA-46th District’s best and brightest young men and women to our nation’s service academies. If you are a highly motivated, well-rounded, successful student, I invite you to consider the unique opportunity to develop physically, ethically, and intellectually while building a foundation for an exciting, challenging, and rewarding career as a military officer in the service of our nation.
CA-46th-area students (Anaheim, Santa Ana, Orange, & Garden Grove) traditionally are very successful at the academies, and I’m pleased to do my part to ensure that our community continues to provide some of the next generation’s outstanding military leaders.
A congressional nomination is required for students who wish to enter the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY. Successful applicants will have a broad academic background, the ability to pass a physical aptitude test, and strong leadership potential. An applicant must also be a U.S. citizen, a high school graduate between the ages of 17 and 23, unmarried, have no dependents, and be of high moral character. Acceptance of a service academy appointment requires at least a nine-year service obligation, including four years at an academy and five years of active duty service.
If you are interested in being considered for a service academy nomination, you must apply through my office by November 1, 2019, to be considered for the class entering the service academies in July 2020. For more information or to obtain a nomination application, please visit my website: https://correa.house.gov/services/students/service-academy-nominations/. Additionally, my office will be hosting a Service Academy Night to provide more information about this nomination process on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at 2323 N. Broadway, Santa Ana, Ca 92706. RSVP here.
Thank you for your interest in the service academies and good luck.
 Sincerely,
J. LUIS CORREA
Member of Congress
