Palma Futuro Team Spotlight

Maria Camila López Navarro and Leyla Patricia Baquero Uribe

From 2019 to 2024, Palma Futuro promoted decent working conditions to address child labor and forced labor in palm oil supply chains in Colombia and Ecuador. Now that the project has come to a close, we are sharing stories that highlight the impact and sustainability of the project.

We spoke with Leyla Patricia Baquero Uribe and Maria Camila López Navarro, who led Palma Futuro’s community engagement efforts in Colombia. Leyla and Maria Camila tell us about their experiences and impactful moments from working closely with 53 communities surrounding the palm oil industry.

Moratorium on SA8000 Applications for Accreditation

Due to the introduction of significant changes to SA8000 accreditation and certification requirements, SAI (Social Accountability International, the creator and owner of the SA8000 Standard), has requested SAAS (Social Accountability Accreditation Services, the scheme’s accreditation body) to stop accepting new SA8000 certification body applicants.

SAAS has, therefore, suspended the SA8000 Accreditation Application Process with immediate effect and until such time as the changes are complete and published.

Christie Daly (Director of Corporate Programs) and Christopher Lamoureux (Senior Manager, Standards & Impacts) presented information about SAI's living wage work and strategies for companies seeking to improve their living wage processes.
