BOONE, N.C., March 30, 2025 – The DC-8 cargo plane will no longer be on display at SUN 'N FUN this year as the international Christian relief organization is preparing to respond to the deadly earthquake that rocked Myanmar and Thailand on Friday. More than 1,700 people were killed in the tragic earthquake, and search and rescue efforts are still underway.
Samaritan’s Purse utilizes the DC-8 cargo plane for emergency relief with the goal of being able to deploy in less than 24 hours after a disaster strikes. This mission of responding to disasters at a moment’s notice is why aviation is critical to the organization’s work. Please pray for the aviation team and the disaster response specialists who are working tirelessly to meet emergency needs in Jesus’ Name.
This year at SUN 'N FUN, Samaritan’s Purse will display a water filtration system that is capable of producing clean water for up to 16,000 people a day. This unit was specially designed by Samaritan’s Purse engineers to fit on one pallet position on the DC-8.
While the cargo plane is unable to be present at the airshow this year, its absence is the very reason it is necessary and demonstrates the necessity of aviation. Since 2016, the Samaritan’s Purse DC-8 has airlifted more than 8.7 million pounds of cargo around the world on 200 relief missions.
