President's Message
Happy New Year to the Post! I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing holiday. I am excited and honored to serve as the SAME Phoenix Post President for 2019 for a second year. My name is Marilyn Zenko. I am the Natural and Cultural Resources Group Manager for Terracon Consultants, Inc. I have been with the SAME Phoenix Post since 2013 when I arrived in Arizona to work on the archaeological data recovery solar project at Luke Air Force Base. We have some informative events planned this year including the Small Business Symposium, golf tournament fundraisers, monthly luncheons and a few social gatherings. We are also going to focus some of the events towards the SAME’s Centennial Run for 2020 and Beyond including decade-themes throughout the year. These events provide valuable networking opportunities and a chance to build business relationships. This year we plan to offer Continuing Education credits on select events to help with professional growth and development. A couple of goals we have this year include increasing Post membership involvement and provide STEM education and/or mentorship for our future generation. Last, the Phoenix Post would like to mirror the SAME National mission to unite public and private sector entities and individuals in the A/E/C fields so that we can prepare for and overcome natural and man-made disasters, acts of terrorism and improve security at home and abroad. I look forward to working with our new and existing members in having a successful year!

A Message on Membership
The Phoenix Post has maintained a membership of over 300 in 2018, with an increase of 51 new Sustaining and Individual members, bringing the roster totals to 311. Of the new members, 29 are Sustaining, 10 are Individual Private, 5 are Civilian/Government, 4 are Student, 2 are Uniform Service, and 1 is Nonprofit.
A number of Memberships lapsed in 2018. As such, our Roster showed a small net growth.
This is a good time of the year to check your membership status. SAME National should send a reminder, but feel free to reach out to our VP Membership, Bruce Kay, if you have any questions.
Bruce Kay attended a Post Leaders Training Workshop in August, and came back with a new perspective of the SAME organization. SAME will be celebrating its Centennial Anniversary in 2020, and preparations within all Posts are beginning immediately. The Run Up to 2020 and Beyond is a new phrase you’ll hear through the coming months. The Board asks all members, new and old, to contribute any historically significant stories during your membership. We’re interested in sustaining members showcasing significant projects with national security, with local Federal facilities, and with cutting edge technology. The Phoenix Post was installed more than 50 years ago, and surely there must be somesome historically significant projects. This could include projects with the Department of Defense, Corps of Engineers, Department of Emergency and Military Management, Williams AFB, Luke AFB, US Army, Navy, Marines, etc.
We will be including these and other features during our monthly meetings. So, dig into your archives, turn up the creative current, and help us celebrate in style.
