New Jersey Increases Smoking Age to 21
NJ Third State to Raise Legal Smoking Age
Republican Gov. Chris Christie recently signed a bill that increases the legal smoking age from 19 to 21 in New Jersey. The law applies to both e-cigarettes and traditional tobacco products, and will become effective November 1 of this year. New Jersey is the third state to pass such legislation, following California and Hawaii. Oregon is also in the process of passing a bill to increase the age to 21. Additionally, 190 cities prohibit the sale of cigarettes to people under 21.
