Congratulations to Tyler Shoesmith,

SARAH CoC Board of Directors' new Secretary!  


Tyler Shoesmith, pictured second from the right, is the Senior Executive Director at SAISD's Office of Continuous Improvement and was recently elected to serve as Secretary on the SARAH CoC Board of Directors. The Secretary is a member of the Board's Executive Committee and plays a critical role as the active conduit for communication between board members.

Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) Listening Session

We are looking for Young Adults, ages 18-25, to help us improve accessibility for young adults by sharing their experiences with being connected to housing.  Participants will receive a complimentary care package, valued at $30, for providing feedback.  All sessions are virtual and confidential.

SAHA's Housing Choice Voucher Waitlist is OPEN


The application portal for the San Antonio Housing Authority's (SAHA) Housing Choice Voucher Waitlist (HCV - commonly known as section 8) is open through July 13.

 

  • The HCV Waitlist is lottery-based.
  • 10,000 applicants will be randomly selected after July 13.
  • The average wait time will be approximately 2.5 years.
  • Applicants will need an email address.

ConnectED Open Enrollment Days 


ConnectED's mission is to provide current/former foster youth with the skills needed for employment and relationship success. 


Enrollment Days occur every 2nd Tuesday of the month at BCFS HHS San Antonio Transition Center.  Current or former foster youth ages 16-23 interested in joining this program are encouraged to attend.  ConnectED's next enrollment day is Tuesday, July 12th, 2-5 PM.

HUD Update for ESG, CoC, YHDP, and HOPWA Programs

On June 16, 2022, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued Notice CPD-22-09 on expedited waivers available for ESG, CoC, YHDP, and HOPWA programs.  This waiver is slightly different from the waivers we’ve seen throughout the CARES Act, as you need HUD’s approval before implementation and must submit your request by July 31, 2022.  Please coordinate with your funder to request these waivers.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

HUD Announced a First-of-its-Kind Unsheltered Homelessness NOFO 


The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced a first-of-its-kind unsheltered homelessness NOFO under the CoC Program, due October 20, 2022.


The process for applying for these funds will be very similar to our regular CoC Program NOFO in that SARAH will hold a competition and submit the application on behalf of our community.  We will release more information in the coming weeks!

2022 ESG NOFA Award Application Open


The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) approved the release of the 2022 ESG NOFA for $9,381,28, which is available to view on the agency's website here.   


The competitive award application will open on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, and close on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 5 PM.  Application materials and additional information can be found here


Note for current TDHCA ESG grantees:  The proposed amendment to allow autorenewals was approved by TDHCA's board, so the process for current grantees will differ from years past.  Qualifying ESG annual recipients should have received an email on Monday, June 20th from TDHCA.
