Ready for a new school year
Stoughton Area School District students and staff were busy this summer preparing for the new school year.
River Bluff WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) and Stoughton High Schol Link Crew leaders helped put on orientation programs for incoming sixth-graders and ninth-graders, respectively. District staff underwent professional development centered on our new elementary math curriculum, equity, safety, digital learning and more. Schools continued building relationships with families through programs such as Rock the Block, book swaps and summer reading programs.

Donations help reward EXCEL students with books, promote summer reading
|
|
Every year, Summer EXCEL K-8 reading students are rewarded for their hard work with a free book to keep at the end of their four-week reading class.
Thanks to a generous donation from Dave Gasner and the UPS Store in Stoughton, this summer our District was able to offer every student two books.
Approximately 150 students were enrolled in this year's
EXCEL K-8 reading classes. During the program, teachers brought classes in every week to check out books from the Summer EXCEL Library Media Center (LMC) at Stoughton High School. Students were also allowed to come in on their own to get books as needed.
During the 2019 Summer EXCEL session, the LMC circulated a total of 1,195 books to students, compared to 885 circulated in 2018, according to
Cathy Gargano, SHS Library Media Specialist
. The LMC also circulated 480 books to Summer EXCEL teachers.
The Stoughton Area School District Summer EXCEL program offers a combination of enrichment and academic classes to students in grades kindergarten through eight as well as classes for students entering four-year-old kindergarten (4K). A total of 650 students were enrolled in the 2019 EXCEL program, which went from June 17 to July 12.
