THE MOST IMPORTANT GIFT
A young lady was in our home today on business. If you know me, you know that I always find a way to talk about Jesus. I asked her if she was a Christian and she said, “yes.” I then asked her where she went to church, and she said she didn’t go to church but talked with her mother about God on occasion. Then I asked her a very important question. I asked her if she was born again, and she didn’t know how to answer me. I asked her if she knew what it meant and she said, “no.”
There are many people just like this young lady that think they are Christian because they aren’t a different “religion”. Sadly, not being a Muslim or Hindu or any other religion does not automatically mean you are a Christian. In order to be a Christian, you must be born again, like it says in John 3:3. Nicodemus had “religion” because he was a Pharisee. He didn’t understand what Jesus meant. Jesus told him that he needed to be born of the water, which is the natural birth (not baptism) and be born of the Spirit, which is a spiritual birth.
How do we receive this? Well first of all it is a gift. You can’t buy it you can only receive it. Let’s see where it all started. When Adam was created God breathed the breath (spirit) of God into him and he became a living soul. The glory (Holy Spirit) was his clothing. He knew no sin until he disobeyed God by eating of the tree of knowledge. The Spirit of God departed from him when he sinned. From that moment on he began to die physically and did eventually die.
The only way to pay for our sin and have the Spirit of God within us again is to pay for it with sinless blood. Since none of us have sinless blood there is a problem. How can you pay for something with what you don’t have? That’s where Jesus comes into the picture. He shed his sinless blood on the cross as payment for all sin, but to receive that payment we must receive Jesus as our Savior. We confess that we have sinned and repent of our sin and invite Jesus to wash our sin away. This is the most important gift we can ever receive.
Today this young lady asked me, “Is it really that simple?” I said, “yes, it is” I asked her if she wanted to receive salvation from her sin and she did just that. She invited Jesus to wash her sin away. That very second that she did this, her spirit was “born again.” It wasn’t a religious experience. It was a relational commitment with Almighty God. She received that important gift. Have you? If not, today is your day.
Just say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I admit I am a sinner and that I need a Savior. I don’t have sinless blood and am lost. I thank you for dying on the cross and shedding your blood for me. I ask that you forgive me of my sin and come into my life. I receive you today as my Lord and Savior and will serve you from this day forward. Amen
If you said that prayer, then you are now “born again” and have received the most important gift you could ever receive. If you prayed this prayer, then send us an email and tell us about it. Click here
