THE APOSTLE PAUL – LESSON 2

THE EARLY LIFE OF SAUL OF TARSUS – PART 2

Yesterday we spoke of the Sanhedrin’s judgment to stone Stephen, a powerful deacon of “The Way”, until he was dead. The young adult Saul was invited to attend the stoning; however, he could not be allowed to be an active participant in the throwing of the stones because he had not yet reached the age of thirty.

As a prized student of the renowned teacher of the Torah, Gamaliel, Saul had been accepted into the Jewish sect of the Pharisees. However, under Jewish custom a man must be at least thirty years old before he could be recognized to hold any type of authority or religious responsibility. That is why even Jesus had to wait until he turned thirty to begin his ministry.

Nevertheless, Saul was respected enough that he was allowed to hold and oversee the coats of the men who were to throw the stones. It was against the Jewish law for a man to have his coat on during such an activity where a man’s blood was being shed, so this was quite an honor for young Saul of Tarsus.

As some time passed, the Jewish persecution of Jewish converts to “The Way” caused many of the converts to seek refuge in other countries. Syria was a bit north of Israel and was one of the areas among other places where these converts relocated.

Young Saul, very zealous for the God of the Jewish law, had now turned thirty and could be given responsibility. His zeal led him to a desire to try and eradicate these heretics of “The Way.” The rulers of the Temple gave him official authority to seek out these converts to imprison them or even have them judged by the Sanhedrin’s trail for death. He was given a contingency of the Temple guards (like soldiers) to escort him in seeking and arresting these people.

We do not know how many places he had already been with these supporting soldiers prior to going to Damascus. What we do know is that he had already arrested so many over such a wide territory that his reputation had already instilled widespread fear. Christians everywhere were terrified of Saul.

Tomorrow we shall see what happened to him on one of his several escapades.

YOU CAN KNOW IN YOUR KNOWER

Jesus told His disciples in John 14:26, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said to you.” This is indicative that you can be taught by Holy Spirit everything that you need to know to live a successful life.

He speaks to you in your spirit. I call it my “knower.” You just “know” something because Holy Spirit reveals it to you. When you are led by the Holy Spirit, you will sense things in your “knower” whether they be of God or not. Holy Spirit will never contradict scripture. If someone says something contrary to scripture, be it pastor, teacher, prophet, apostle, evangelist or anyone else, there will be a “red flag” in your “knower” letting you know that something isn’t right.

Over the years, my “knower” has taught me many truths because I searched the scriptures to find out truth. There were many times that I would sit in a church or bible study, and something just didn’t register in my “knower.” I asked a lot of questions and probably made some mad, but I was earnest in my quest of truth. I didn’t take someone’s word for something if my “knower” raised a “red flag.”

This will work for you too. As you study scripture and get more of the word into your spirit, there will be a well to draw from when you hear error or truth. In John 14:16-17a Jesus told his disciples, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth…..” Then in John 16:13 it says, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth…”

You can always trust Holy Spirit to help you know in your “knower” because he will be with you to guide you forever.

PROPHETIC WARNING

The line has been drawn. You must go all the way with God or no way. There is no room for lukewarm Christianity anymore. Many think they are okay but they are playing a game and God is saying checkmate.

APOSTLE PAT MURRAY

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

Let’s face it...Being betrayed seems to be part of the process that we all go through; While on our way to fulfilling life’s purpose. However, it’s important for you to know...That it’s how you behave in the caves of life; Yes, how you act and how you react to what you’re now experiencing. No doubt it’ll be a shocking betrayal or other surprise attacks that most likely will determine how you progress; Or IF you digress while on the way to God’s plan of action ahead for you. Just know that while you’re on the way to God’s purpose for your life and/or your ministry... God WILL try you or prove you as you’re on the way to purpose. Write this down on the tablets of your heart to remind you that...God will never use anyone to any great degree UNTIL He first proves them in the furnace of affliction; While In route to their life’s purpose. If in doubt, just ask Daniel about the lion’s den, the 3 Hebrew boys about the fiery furnace, David about the giant or ask Jonah about the whale just to name a few. In the meantime; Stay strong and be careful how you behave in the lions dens, the fiery furnaces, the giants and the whales that you may experience in your life; While on the way to where you’re going. Blessings
