THE ARMOUR OF GOD PART 2
We continue with our study on the armour of God. We learned yesterday (click here to read) that we must be strong in the Lord and his power and might. (Ephesians 6:10.) We learned that we do not wrestle with flesh and blood, but with the spirit behind (controlling) the person. We discussed principalities, and today we will continue with Ephesians 6:12b where it says we wrestle against, “powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Satan has his order of rule just like an army. The Commander in chief instructs the generals, and the generals give orders down the line. The word powers in this verse comes from the Greek word exousia which means; ability, force, mastery (even superhuman) control, influence, authority, jurisdiction. So, we see that that these spirits have power beyond what a normal human would have, and they have control and influence over lives. The rulers of darkness in this world have power over those that open themselves to their influence.
In looking at Job chapter 1 we see Satan going before the throne and talking to God about Job. He accused God of putting a “hedge” of protection around Job. God removed this “hedge” and allowed Satan to bring great destruction to Job’s life. He lost his children, his crops, his animals, and the respect from his wife. Job’s friends came with accusations as to why this happened, and later were judged for their actions and ended up giving Job everything he lost and more. Many think the reason this happened is because Job said, “The thing I feared has come upon me.” (Ch. 3:25.) Remember, Satan is the accuser of the brethren, and is relentless with his accusations before the throne of God against us. When we sin, we break the hedge so to speak, and allow Satan a legal right to use this “power” against us. This is rarely taught in most churches. Many think Satan wears a red suit and carries a pitchfork. But Satan is a real being and it tells us in John 10:10 that he comes to “steal, kill, and destroy” us.
He works through rulers of darkness in this world. There are many that have sold out to Satan, and he works through them from the highest seats of government throughout the world to the local politicians that have given Satan rule in their lives. This brings darkness into an area and makes it difficult for those trying to bring the message of the gospel to certain areas. Only transformation from the inside out can bring change to those in darkness, and those areas. It is evident throughout our country right now. Many ungodly leaders have endorsed sin. They are calling evil good, and good evil. Remember, it is the spirit behind these individuals, not the individuals themselves.
Tomorrow we will begin teaching on the remedy against these powers.
