BOARD OF EDUCATION TO HOLD SPECIAL MEETING APRIL 11, 2023

SAUSD TO HOLD ETHNIC STUDIES CONFERENCE APRIL 15, 2023

The SAUSD community is invited to attend the District's annual Ethnic Studies Community Conference from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on April 15, 2023 at Segerstrom High School. The event explores the rich history and cultural contributions of our diverse communities. There will be keynote speakers, panel discussions, and interactive workshops to highlight the importance of ethnic studies in education. Learn more here.

SCHOOL BUDGET COMMUNITY TOWN HALL MEETINGS SLATED FOR APRIL 17, 2023 

The District is hosting two community town hall meetings on April 17, 2023 to provide information and answer questions about the budget process and how schools are funded. LOWELL, SANTIAGO EARN ‘RAMP’ DESIGNATION 

The school counseling teams at SAUSD’s Lowell Elementary and Santiago TK-8 Elementary have earned the distinction of Recognized American School Counselors Association Model (RAMP) Program by the American School Counselor Association! The RAMP designation recognizes schools that are committed to delivering an exemplary school counseling program. They will be honored during a special ceremony at the American School Counselor Association’s Annual Conference. Congratulations!

SAUSD EMPLOYEES OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH 2023 NAMED

Congratulations to SAUSD’s Employees of the Month for March 2023, as named during the March 28, 2023 Board of Education meeting. Alicia Tull, a teacher at Pio Pico Elementary School, is the Certificated Employee of the Month for March 2023. Angelina Alcantar, site coordinator at Monte Vista Elementary School, is the Classified Employee of the Month for March 2023. Congratulations to both! Read more about them here.

SAUSD BOARD OF EDUCATION PASSES RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 2023 NATIONAL ARAB AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH

April 2023 is National Arab American Heritage Month, a time to highlight the rich and diverse culture and contributions of Arab Americans. The Board of Education encourages the community to mark the occasion with instructional and celebratory activities, and has passed a resolution proclaiming April 2023 as National Arab American Heritage Month. SAUSD BOARD OF EDUCATION PASSES RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 2023 SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH

April 2023 is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a national campaign to raise awareness about sexual violence, how to prevent it, and how to support those who are affected by it. In SAUSD, the Board of Education has adopted a resolution proclaiming April 2023 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The proclamation is a declaration to educate about and prevent sexual assault in addition to joining others across our nation to take action to prevent sexual violence. TWO SAUSD SCHOLARS NAMED CHAMPIONS IN COUNTY’S NATIONAL HISTORY DAY COMPETITION

Two SAUSD students have scored top honors in the countywide National History Day competition that took place recently at the Orange County Department of Education, and are now moving onto the next round of competition. Congratulations to Isabella Cuellar and Omar Galindo, of MacArthur Fundamental Intermediate, who were named champions in the Junior Group Documentary category for their entry “Transcontinental Railroad.”

TWO SAUSD EMPLOYEES NAMED AMONG 2023 SENATE DISTRICT 34 WOMEN OF DISTINCTION

Two SAUSD employees have been named among State Senator Tom Umberg’s 2023 Senate District 34 Women of Distinction. SAUSD’s Lorraine Perez, Ed.D., deputy superintendent of Educational Services, and Andrea Foster, coordinator for Health Services and Home Hospital Instruction, are among those being honored this year. The annual awards acknowledge women who live or work in the 34th Senate District and who have made significant contributions to the community. Congratulations!

THREE SAUSD STAFF MEMBERS RECEIVE 2023 AWARDS FROM ACSA REGION 17

Three SAUSD staff members are among the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Region 17’s 2023 Administrators of the Year and Friends of Education. They are: Dr. Sonia Rodarte Llamas: Valuing Diversity Award, Don Isbell: Career Technical Education Administrator, and Gabriel Camberos: Classified Champion of the Year. This year’s ACSA Region 17 award recipients will be recognized May 8, 2023 at the Irvine Marriott. Congratulations to all!

SANTIAGO TEACHER HONORED BY ANAHEIM DUCKS, NOW IN RUNNING TO BE ‘APRIL’S MOST VALUABLE TEACHER’

Scott Tenchka, a teacher at SAUSD’s Santiago K-8 school, has been named Teacher of the Month for March 2023 by the Anaheim Ducks’ Future Goals Program. He’s also now in the running to be named April’s Most Valuable Teacher as part of the Future Goal Most Valuable Teacher program presented by SAP, the NHL and the NHLPA.
