SAUSD EMPLOYEES HONORED DURING ANNUAL EDUCATORS OF THE YEAR CELEBRATION
The Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) honored its Teachers of the Year and Support Services Educators of the Year for the impact they make on students' lives during the annual Educators of the Year celebration on May 1, 2019 at Santa Ana High School. There are 106 honorees this year - from Kindergarten teachers to school nurses - representing the District's elementary, intermediate and high schools. During the event, the District also honored its 3 Districtwide Teachers of the Year - Veronica DeBruhl-Githens, Anastasia Cocca, and Adam Woods - and 3 Support Services Educators of the Year, Celeste Harris, Laurie Tristan, and Janet Kleinschmidt. SAUSD EMPLOYEES RECOGNIZED DURING ANNUAL CLASSIFIED SCHOOL EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR EVENT
Fifty-six SAUSD employees representing the District's elementary, intermediate and high schools were honored April 30, 2019 during the 2019 Classified School Employee of the Year celebration at Santa Ana High School. From plant custodians, to office managers, to library media technicians, they were recognized for their many contributions to their school communities. The 5 Districtwide Classified School Employees of the Year - Inocencio "Chris" Chavez, Lisa Varela, Juan Carlos Delgado, Mireya Guillen, and Beatriz Rodriguez - were also recognized during the special event. SAUSD, MEXICAN CONSULATE EMBARK ON JOINT VENTURES FOR BENEFIT OF SAUSD STUDENTS
It was a busy week for SAUSD and the Mexican Consulate, which embarked on several joint ventures this week. The two signed an MOU to support our collaboration in education, cultural expertises, and outreach and also together kicked off the start of Binational Education Week 2019. They also held a press conference at Century High School for the launch of the GO PASE program, which encourages families to visit 33 cultural sites in Orange County, and the unveiling of a cultural immersion program through which students of Mexican origin may travel to Mexico this summer for 5 weeks. 250+ SAUSD SCHOLARS ATTEND ANNUAL STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
More than 250 SAUSD students representing 33 elementary and intermediate schools attended the Student Leadership Conference on April 26, 2019 at Santa Ana College, where they invested 4 hours into learning about what it means to be a successful student leader. Donning "We Are SAUSD" T-shirts, attendees spent the day listening to guest speakers, engaged in team building exercises, and participating in workshops given by students from 10 SAUSD high schools on topics ranging from school spirit, to ethical leadership, to marketing and more. ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF SANTA ANA GRANTS $20,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO SAUSD STUDENTS
The Assistance League of Santa Ana recently presented SAUSD seniors with nearly $20,000 in scholarships. The League's mission is to transform the lives of children through community programs. It also assists SAUSD students through a variety of programs, including Operation School Bell and its Dental Center. This year, each honoree received a $1,000 scholarship.
