SUPERINTENDENT UPDATE REGARDING DISTANCE LEARNING
Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) Superintendent Jerry Almendarez has issued a new community update stating that rigorous distance learning will continue in SAUSD until it is safe to resume in-person instruction. “In order for our District to resume any in-person instruction, the rate of COVID-19 cases must decrease to safer levels,” he states. “We are steadily working as a community to reach this goal. And when we do so, our students will begin returning to our campuses." To read the letter, click here.
#SAUSDFIRSTDAY2020 PHOTO CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED 
The results are in! The winners of SAUSD’s annual Back to School photo contest are: first place, Bianca Bravo; second place, Ame Hernandez; third place, Alexis Rodriguez Mejia. More than 165 photos were submitted, giving viewers a glimpse at how SAUSD scholars are embracing the shift to online learning for the start of the new school year. To view all entries, click here.
SAUSD LAUNCHES FAMILY TECH SUPPORT LINE, WEBPAGE 
SAUSD has launched a Family Tech Support Line, a way for parents/students to call for tech support or referrals of devices that are not working properly and for help logging in to distance learning platforms. The District has also launched a webpage featuring helpful videos on how to use various apps and programs. Click here for information on both.

In honor of the start of the new school year, SAUSD is unveiling a new series of videos introducing our School Resource Officers to the community. School Resource Officers work closely with site administrators, District Safety Officers, and the SAUSD community, to ensure a safe educational environment. Next in the series is a profile on Officer Rivera of Saddleback High School.

SAUSD PROVIDES FREE, HEALTHY MEALS FOR STUDENTS IN FALL 2020 
SAUSD is providing free, nutritious lunches for SAUSD students during fall 2020. Parents/guardians/students may pick up meals from any school site using the student's meal I.D. card or student number. Click here for an updated schedule of times and locations, which are tailored to each school community.
ASTRONAUT ‘JERRY’ CARR, NAMESAKE OF CARR INTERMEDIATE, PASSES AWAY
Gerald "Jerry" Carr, the namesake of SAUSD’s Carr Intermediate School, passed away this week at 88. As commander of the Skylab 4 mission, Carr and his crew conducted a wealth of biomedical investigations that were pivotal to NASA’s ability to support humans living and working in space long term. Carr was raised in Santa Ana and graduated from Santa Ana High School. To read more about him, click here.
