BOARD OF EDUCATION APPOINTS TWO NEW DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENTS
The Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) Board of Education this week appointed Dr. Lorraine Perez as deputy superintendent of educational services, and Amanda Corridan as deputy superintendent of administrative services. Both will join Superintendent Jerry Almendarez’ team, helping to lead the county’s second largest district with more than 47,000 students and 56 schools. To read more about them, click here.

SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARENESS WEEK: #WECARE
In light of Suicide Prevention Awareness Week, Sept. 6-12, SAUSD would like to remind the community that #WeCare. The District has an array of mental health resources available to SAUSD students and families, including a special SAUSD hotline phone number: 657-290-9527. CTE NOW PROCESSING STUDENT WORK PERMITS
SAUSD’s Career Technical Education division has updated its website to include information on how to apply for a student work permit during this period of remote learning. To apply, students should click here and log into their student sausdlearns email account to get started. Students must have a job offer from an employer before applying.

The Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team has created a new video series to help the SAUSD community learn more about technology during this time of distance learning. ‘MEET YOUR SAUSD SRO’: OFFICER MACIAS OF CENTURY HIGH SCHOOL
In honor of the start of the new school year, SAUSD is unveiling a new series of videos introducing our School Resource Officers to the community. School Resource Officers work closely with site administrators, District Safety Officers, and the SAUSD community, to ensure a safe educational environment. TWO SAUSD EMPLOYEES NAMED ‘WOMEN OF DISTINCTION’
Two SAUSD employees are scheduled to be honored during Senator Tom Umberg’s 34th District 2020 Women of Distinction reception on Sept. 16 via Zoom. Bertha Benavides, principal at Willard Intermediate, and Robyn MacNair, visual and performing arts coordinator, will be recognized in the “education” category. They were selected from more than 60 nominees in six categories. All nominees have made significant impacts on their communities.

Although COVID-19 rates are declining countywide, case levels in Santa Ana remain high. As a service to the SAUSD community, the District has posted information about free COVID-19 testing opportunities being offered by the City of Santa Ana and Latino Health Access to its COVID-19 resource webpage.
