GRAPHIC: TENTATIVE TIMELINE FOR RETURN TO IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION
A tentative timeline was presented to the Santa Ana Unified School District Board of Education this week for students to return to in-person instruction in a hybrid model. The timeline is tentative and will depend on ongoing health factors in the community. Families will continue to have the option to choose full distance or hybrid learning. Schools will soon be sending out a survey to parents/guardians to gauge their preferences. To view the timeline, click here.
LOS ANGELES CHARGERS PLAYER VISITS HEROES ELEMENTARY
Isaac Rochell of the Los Angeles Chargers visited Heroes Elementary this week to make a special donation through his charity, Local Human. Rochell donated T-shirts and school supplies to the students in Maria Martinez’s Kindergarten and first grade class, and greeted the students as they logged on for distance learning. Local Human focuses on offering social-emotional support for teens and the elderly during isolation.
ANNUAL COLLEGE NIGHT EVENT SCHEDULED FOR OCT. 1
SAUSD’s annual College Night is scheduled for Oct. 1. The virtual event is open to all SAUSD students in grades K-12, and highlights the wide range of higher education opportunities available to high school graduates. College Knowledge webinars run from 4-5:45 p.m., and the College Night Fair runs from 6-8:30 p.m. For more information, visit the event website here.
SAUSD LAUNCHES #PROUD2BESAUSD SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN
Are you proud to be an SAUSD employee, alumni, parent, student, or supporter? If so, the SAUSD Communications Office wants to tell your story. Those who are interested in sharing with the public why they are #Proud2BeSAUSD are invited to fill out this Google form for a chance to be featured in a new social media campaign reflecting the vibrant SAUSD community. HIGHLIGHTED VIDEO
The SAUSD Communications Office is creating a new video series highlighting best practices for at-home video production. Videos will cover optimal sound and lighting conditions, and other topics that may be helpful for employees who are creating video tutorials for their school communities during this time of distance learning. The second video in the series presents tips regarding lighting.
‘MEET YOUR SRO’: OFFICER WIMBERLEY, SANTA ANA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL
In honor of the start of the 2020-21 school year, SAUSD is unveiling a new series of videos introducing our School Resource Officers (SRO) to the community. SROs work closely with site administrators, District Safety Officers, and the SAUSD community, to ensure a safe educational environment. SADDLEBACK STUDENT’S WINNING ARTWORK TO BE DISPLAYED ON BUS
Jazmin Suarez of Saddleback High School has won an art contest sponsored by JFK Transportation, and soon her artwork will be displayed on a bus. Suarez won the high school division of the competition, titled “#2020VISION Through The Eyes of a Student.” JFK will wrap a bus in Suarez’ artwork and will hold a ceremony next month to recognize the contest winners. Although COVID-19 rates are declining countywide, case levels in Santa Ana remain high. As a service to the SAUSD community, the District has posted information about free COVID-19 testing opportunities being offered by the City of Santa Ana, Latino Health Access and other groups to the COVID-19 resource webpage. SAUSD NOW OFFERING EXPANDED MEAL SERVICE AT 58 SITES
Reminder: SAUSD has expanded its free meal service as part of the Board of Education’s ongoing mission to continue to provide free, nutritious food for students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The District is now serving free meals to all children ages 1-18 through Dec. 18. In addition, the District has also expanded service times, so that meals may now be picked up in the morning, afternoon and evening. For a full schedule, click here.
