2019 STATE OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT BREAKFAST HELD
More than 400 principals, parents, community leaders and other supporters attended the State of the School District Breakfast at Godinez Fundamental High School on Nov. 1, 2019, where representatives of the Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) and the Santa Ana Public Schools Foundation highlighted the academic progress being made by the District and the many high-quality programs and opportunities available to SAUSD students. SAUSD SPEECH AND DEBATE TOURNAMENT DRAWS 480 STUDENTS FROM ACROSS ORANGE COUNTY
More than 480 students from across Orange County took part in the District’s 2019 Dia de los Muertos Speech and Debate tournament on Oct. 26, 2019 at Century High School. More than 1,200 students at 29 schools now participate in SAUSD’s National Award Winning Speech and Debate program. For more news out of the program, follow its Facebook page .
300 SAUSD STUDENTS ATTEND SANTA ANA COLLEGE ARTS EXPERIENCE 
Nearly 300 serious SAUSD artists were hosted by the Santa Ana College (SAC) Arts Department this week during the SAC Arts Experience, where they had the opportunity to meet faculty from dance, theatre, visual art, music and media arts. Students toured the campus, experienced presentations, and attended a college-level arts class of their choice. The festivities ended with a SAUSD/SAC dance presentation. This is the start of a burgeoning partnership between SAUSD and SAC in the arts.
SAUSD SCHOOLS HOST FALL ACTIVITIES 
SAUSD students have been busy engaging in various seasonal activities this month, from hosting Fall Festivals and Halloween Parades, to organizing and participating in Dia de los Muertos events. VILLA STUDENT STARS IN NATIONAL SAMSUNG COMMERCIAL
A familiar face is visible in Samsung's newest national ad campaign: John Flores, a Villa Fundamental Intermediate student. Flores got his start in acting in Miss Guzman's 4th grade film class at Heninger Elementary School two years ago. After starring in several successful films, Creating Creators arranged for his audition with Buchwald Agency's Youth Talent Department, and he was signed immediately. CALOPTIMA HIGHLIGHTS OPENING OF SAUSD WELLNESS CENTERS
The roll out of SAUSD’s Wellness Centers districtwide was recently highlighted in the CalOptima newsletter. The Centers are designed to be a hub of resources reflective of each unique school community's needs and interests. To read more, click here .
OCDE PROFILES MENDEZ MATH TEACHER  
Andrea Earl, a math teacher and mentor to the Mendez Hot Shots Rocketry team at Mendez Fundamental Intermediate, is highlighted in a recent edition of the Orange County Department of Education STEM newsletter. To read more about her and her work, click here .

SAPD SERVICE DOG DELIGHTS STUDENTS AT SAHS 
Students from the Welcoming Hands Club at Santa Ana High School recently invited Santa Ana Police Department representatives and a service dog named Shadow to campus to provide a unique learning experience for their classmates with special needs. The club began last year as a way to help special needs students, and others who are not as social as they would like to be, to be more included on campus. Members meet 2-3 times per week. Students sing Karaoke together, color together, have dance battles and more. For photos, click here .
