160 SAUSD NJROTC CADETS PARTICIPATE IN PASS-IN-REVIEW 
The annual inspection and Pass-in-Review of Santa Ana High School’s NJROTC Unit took place Oct. 23, 2019 at the school. The unit, which is in its 48th year and has earned Distinguished status for 19 years in a row, is made up of 160 cadets from Century, Santa Ana, Middle College and Santa Ana Valley high schools. The character development program helps students improve their grades and attendance, and make them better citizens, said Commander Tom Osseck, USN (Ret), Senior Naval Science Instructor. BOARD HONORS CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH, ALEJANDRO PRADO 
The Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) Board of Education this week recognized the District’s Classified Employee of the Month for October 2019, Alejandro Prado. Prado is a plant custodian at Advanced Learning Academy. He has been with the District for 7 years. To read more about him, click here.  
BOARD HONORS CERTIFICATED EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH, SONTA GARNER-MARCELO
The SAUSD Board of Education this week recognized the District’s Certificated Employee of the Month for October 2019, Sonta Garner-Marcelo. Garner-Marcelo is a second grade teacher at Davis Elementary School. To read more about her, click here.
NOVEMBER IS SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY MONTH IN SAUSD
The SAUSD Board of Education this week adopted a resolution declaring November 2019 as School Psychology Month. School Psychology principles and practices embedded within education have been critical pieces of the fabric of SAUSD. School psychologists support SAUSD students and families to feel safe, secure, and help students to thrive by nurturing their individual strengths across both personal and academic endeavors.

MENDEZ STUDENT WINS NATIONAL ROCKETRY AWARD
Mendez Fundamental Intermediate School student Emmanuel Florentino was recognized as a National Winner in the 2019 Reach for the Stars Rocketry Competition at a ceremony at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Alabama on Oct. 19, 2019. While in Alabama, he launched a rocket from the Homer Hickam launch pad and spent the day at Space Camp. He was accompanied by Mr. Garrett, Mrs. Earl, Alexander Gutierrez, and his sister, Elizabeth Segura.
SAUSD SPECIALIST PRESENTS AT LEARNINGSCAPES 2019
Elida Sanchez, a Social Services Specialist for SAUSD, recently participated in a panel presentation at the LearningSCAPES 2019 Conference in Anaheim titled “How School Facilities can Support the Challenges of Student Homelessness.” The presentation aimed to help attendees gain an understanding of the needs of homeless students, and explore ways to address the challenges that homeless students face.
CENTURY COUNSELOR SPEAKS AT CASC CONFERENCE 
Beau Menchaca, a Counselor at Century High School, was invited to present at the California Association of School Counselors annual conference in Ontario. His presentation was titled, "Show Me the Money: One School’s Financial Aid Story: A Five-Year Odyssey." The session examined the journey of how Century High School raised its financial aid completion rate over five years.

SAHS STUDENT FILMS TO BE SCREENED OCT. 26
An hour’s worth of films created by students in the Edward James Olmos School of Film and Cinematic Arts at Santa Ana High School will be screened at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 26, 2019 at AMC Orange 30 as part of the OC Film Fiesta.
