The IRS will no longer issue paper refund checks and will require banking information for direct deposit.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has announced that tax refund paper checks will no longer be issued. According to the IRS, this change is designed to:

  • Protect taxpayers
  • Speed up refunds
  • Cut costs

Filing stays the same: Taxpayers should continue to file their returns as they normally would, using one of the existing filing options.

What this means for taxpayers:

  • Refunds will be delivered by secure electronic payments.
  • Taxpayers should make sure they have their banking information available or consider opening a bank account.

Visit coag.gov/bankon to find banks and credit unions across Colorado that offer low-cost, low-fee transaction accounts certified to meet the Bank On National Account Standards.
