North Carolina legislators left Raleigh in July without passing a state budget, putting critically needed funding for child care on hold. But child care programs don't go on hold — they keep showing up for our kids, supporting working parents, and keeping local economies running. Without urgent investment, however, many programs simply won't be able to keep their doors open. We're already seeing closures across the state, and without state funding, that trend will only accelerate.

Join child care advocates across the state on August 12, 2025 for a Child Care Day of Action in which we raise awareness of why child care matters to NC and why we must invest now. You can join us by doing any or all of the following!

  • On 8/12, send a note directly to your lawmaker. If you make it personal by adding a sentence or two about how child care does or has made a difference to your family, even better! You can find who represents you and their contact information here: https://ncleg.gov/FindYourLegislators

  • On 8/12, call your lawmaker and tell them why child care and early learning matter to you and to our state. You can find lawmaker phone numbers on the NCGA website at ncleg.net or use our unbranded call in line that will provide talking points and connect you directly to your lawmaker.
  1. To use the call in line, text INVEST to (888) 418-5699 and you will immediately receive a call back to connect you to your lawmakers.
  2. You can also encourage others to use the call in line by sharing the information number and key word to text or by linking directly to the call in page at: https://actionnetwork.org/call_campaigns/save-ncs-child-care-system-tell-your-nc-lawmaker-we-must-invest-now/

  • Raise a ruckus for child care on social! Let's flood social media by sharing content with the hashtag #poweredbychildcare. Whatever social platform you're on, we've got you. There are several ways you can participate:
  1. Share a picture that represents what child care means to you and encourage others to do the same. Maybe it's a picture of you with your child, at work, with your child's teacher, in front of your child care center – whatever sums up child care for you. Share your picture on the social media platform of your choice and tag it with #poweredbychildcare and #ncpol. (Make sure to also tag #ncpol so it shows up in the X feeds of lawmakers and media outlets.)
  2. Share images and photos with facts about the child care need and the crisis facing our state. You can create your own or use unbranded ones created by the community of child care advocates. Again, make sure to tag with #poweredbychildcare and #ncpol Toolkit 1- Images with current facts pulled from the NC Task Force on Child Care and Early Education interim report. Images are available in English and Spanish for multiple formats (Facebook, Instagram, X, and Blue Sky) Toolkit 2- In these links, you will find images specifically geared to providers, parents, and business owners.
  3. Amplify! Please follow #poweredbychildcare and like and share posts from others to help ensure maximum visibility.
