Partners in Workforce:

Overtime Law & Salary Threshold

More than 40 industry, education, and community partners gathered for the Partners in Workforce meeting on December 6 in Atmore, Alabama. Colleagues from LandrumHR Workforce Solutions, Parker Human Resource Services, and Paylocity presented Alabama’s new overtime tax exemption law and the DOL’s proposed minimum salary threshold.

Special thanks to our host, Coastal Alabama Community College, for this great event. Mark your calendars for the next Partners in Workforce meeting scheduled for February 20 in Thomasville, Alabama.

If you missed this meeting, this article explains more.

Career Coach Connect

The Career Coach Connect meeting on December 8th took place at Reid State in Evergreen, AL. Dr. Josh Duplantis addressed the audience on the topic of Skills for Success, while Dr. Kevin Ammons delivered insightful updates on FAFSA. Brianna Hall shared the latest updates in Workforce Development. Our next Career Coach Connect meeting is scheduled for May 2024, and we anticipate another engaging session. We extend our gratitude to the dedicated Career Coaches in Southwest Alabama for their outstanding contributions. We take pride in our partnership, working together to create meaningful opportunities for students.

Talent Lives Here.....

Executive Director, Bridget Wilson joined several other workforce partners in the region earlier this month at the 2023 Annual Convening of Talent Hubs and the National Talent Network as panelists. The annual convening provides an opportunity to bring together leaders and practitioners from higher education, philanthropy, workforce agencies, economic development, government, and non-profit to improve education and talent systems at the local, regional, and state levels.

Mobile has been designated as one of only 25 nationally designated Talent Hubs in the country. For more information click here.

Alabama Talent Triad - Making All Learning Count

The Talent Triad is a public-private partnership, sponsored by Governor Ivey’s Office of Education and Workforce Transformation and AlabamaWorks! to easily provide access to information about jobs, credentials, and job seekers in an online talent marketplace. Unlike many other efforts where states are deploying technology to gather and connect workforce and education data for state-level research and reporting, the Talent Triad was not built to serve the state.

The Talent Triad was designed to serve citizen stakeholders and facilitate the success of:

• Job-seekers and working learners who wish to apply their skills in a new or advancing role

• Employers who seek to find talented Alabamians to fill in-demand jobs

• Education providers working to train and build Alabama’s talented workforce
