Educator Workforce Academy:

Hospitality & Tourism Day

The final session for cohort three of Educator Workforce Academy began with Ian Mohorn, President/ CEO of Dale Carnegie of the Emerald Coast, presenting on techniques to manage stress and worry.

The session continued with valuable information from our partners in the hospitality and tourism industry. Panini Pete, A&R Hospitality, and Tammy Lowe, Renaissance Hotel, presented information about their companies and the many opportunities for high school graduates to enter their workforce.

The University of Alabama's Hospitality and Tourism Division and Bishop State's Culinary Department presented post-secondary opportunities available for students. Thank you, Chef Gabi and the Bishop State culinary students for preparing lunch for us!

To close out the day, educators shared how they plan to implement the knowledge and resources they gained during EWA in their schools. Our educators have big ideas and are excited to see how their innovative plans will positively impact the future workforce in Region 7!

Thank you to our partners, and congratulations to the completers of Educator Workforce Academy!

McDuffie Coal Terminal Recruitment Initiative

SAWDC had the privilege of partnering with McDuffie Coal Terminal to support its effort in growing its workforce. McDuffie welcomed Mobile County Public Schools and Chickasaw High School students for a hands-on field experience at the Port of Mobile.

While on-site, students received an overview of the company and the opportunity to engage with current employees of McDuffie. They participated in a tour of the facility and were able to apply for an apprenticeship position at the coal terminal.

We are excited about this partnership and look forward to continuing to find innovative ways to fill the workforce gaps in Region 7!
