SAWDC Regional Workforce Summit Teams Up with AOA for Innovative Work-Based Learning Showcases

SAWDC AlabamaWorks, in collaboration with the Alabama Office of Apprenticeship, highlighted the significance of Work-Based Learning (WBL) best practices during the Regional Workforce Summit on November 8, 2023. The summit proudly featured three outstanding and innovative programs that have set the bar high for excellence in workforce development. Representatives from AM/NS Calvert, the Baldwin County Home Builders Association, and Chickasaw City Schools took center stage, sharing their program accomplishments, challenges, and the pivotal reasons behind their dedication to developing specialized workforce initiatives tailored to meet the specific needs of their respective businesses.

AM/NS Calvert

AM/NS Calvert's presentation highlighted their pioneering approach to industrial skill development, emphasizing the integration of cutting-edge technology and comprehensive training methodologies. This effort has been through collaborative programs with community colleges, incorporating registered apprenticeships and other initiatives such as FAME.

Baldwin County Home Builders Association

The Baldwin County Home Builders Association's presentation emphasized their pivotal role in bridging the gap between education and industry by providing female students with invaluable direct experience during a week-long construction camp.

Chickasaw City Schools

Chickasaw City Schools' presentation highlighted their relentless efforts to empower the next generation of leaders through firsthand learning experiences and growing their own talent.

Dale Carnegie Workshop

The recent Dale Carnegie Workshop on Process Improvement, held on November 2nd, drew significant attention from professionals across various industries. The event gathered 27 attendees, representing 16 different companies, all eager to delve into effective strategies for enhancing their operational processes. Stay tuned for further updates and detailed information on the May 7, 2024, workshop, as it promises to provide an invaluable platform for fostering continuous improvement and professional development. Educator Workforce Academy

The recent session of the Educator Workforce Academy (EWA) on November 14th brought forth a dynamic exploration of the maritime and transportation, distribution, and logistics sectors. Educators participating in Session 2 were treated to an engaging and informative day, which included immersive tours of prominent industry sites such as the International Trade Center, Alabama Port, McDuffie Coal Terminal, and Austal. The session highlighted EWA's commitment to bridging the gap between industry needs and education, emphasizing practical learning for educators to better prepare the future workforce.

The upcoming session, scheduled for January 23, will shine a spotlight on manufacturing, enabling educators to gain crucial insights into the sector's dynamics and its pivotal role within the broader workforce landscape.
