FAME Employer Signing Ceremony

A milestone event in our community’s educational and economic development commitments took place on August 1 – the inaugural FAME Built by Baldwin Employer Signing Ceremony. This event marks a significant step forward in preparing our future workforce through the Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) Program at Coastal Alabama Community College.


The ceremony celebrated our business partners as they pledged their support to students who will be selected and enrolled in this innovative program. Those business partners are Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Collins Aerospace, Ecovery, Gulf Packaging, Kaishan Compressor USA, Novelis, Quincy Compressor, Saunders Yachtworks, Segers Aero Corporation, and Vulcan, Inc.

Building Bridges: Conecuh County Workforce Meeting Recap

On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, community leaders, elected officials, and workforce practitioners gathered for the Building Bridges: Conecuh County Workforce Meeting. The focus of the meeting was to explore collaborative opportunities to connect with the unemployed and underemployed in Conecuh County. Jessica Dent, Economic Development Lead for Conecuh County and SAWDC, provided an insightful review of labor data, population trends, and the growing industry sectors. The presentations laid the foundation for developing a strategic plan to engage community citizens and boost the labor force participation rate. The event marked a significant step towards strengthening the local workforce and fostering economic growth in Conecuh County.

Industry Cluster Meeting Recap

On August 7, SAWDC hosted an Industry Cluster Meeting at Bishop State Community College. This event provided our partners with valuable insights into:

  • ACCS Innovation Center - Delivering rapid, industry-recognized non-credit training in some of the state's most in-demand career fields.
  • CONNEX Alabama - An online platform connecting all Alabama manufacturers and suppliers into one single, accurate, searchable supply chain database.


We extend special thanks to our presenters, Houston Blackwood, Workforce Director of the Innovation Center, and Whitney Barlow, Supplier Development Manager for Alabama Technology Network, for their informative sessions. 

 2024 Baldwin Utility Intern Commencement


It’s been an incredible summer filled with learning, leadership, and growth for everyone involved! On August 2, 2024, a commencement was held at the Foley Civic Center. Forty rising high school seniors completed the Baldwin County Utility Internship program. Now in its fourth year, this program has effectively coordinated six utility companies with 14 schools to offer high school seniors hands-on work experience. Students participated in internships across various fields, including electric, gas, water, wastewater, warehouse, customer service, engineering, and administrative services.


Educator Workforce Academy

Registration Closes August 16th

The Educator Workforce Academy (EWA) is a collaborative initiative hosted by SAWDC AlabamaWorks. EWA was developed to foster relationships between education and industry leaders. The program is designed to compel educators to evaluate their current programs, particularly Career and Technical Education (CTE), and to create plans that align with regional business and industry workforce demands.


The Academy is open to superintendents, assistant superintendents, CTE directors, principals, teachers, career coaches, guidance counselors, and administrators. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about workforce development challenges and opportunities in Southwest Alabama.


Space is limited to 25 educators, and the deadline to apply is August 16.
