WELCOME TO THE COALITION

Dear Coalition,

Great news: SB242 has passed out of the Senate with a 16-4 vote in our favor and now moves on to the Assembly! Read the full text of SB242 here.

SB-242 began this session with the confirmed support of only three legislators who were brave enough to co-sponsor Senator Nguyen’s bill. With the help of our skilled lobbyist and the rest of NCPM legislative team, we were able to meet with and help educate numerous legislators on what psilocybin has to offer. By educating and informing them, dispelling the myths behind psychedelic medicine, and explaining the mental health benefits backed up by research, we've been able to change hearts and minds. Our efforts have resulted in an overwhelming majority voting in support of our bill and a total of 9 co-sponsors from both sides of the aisle. SB242 now heads to the Assembly Committee on Health and Human Services where we are already working on ensuring its passage from there to the floor.

For those of you who have contributed financially to this mission, we are SO grateful--this would not have been possible without your support! As we redouble our efforts to pass the Assembly vote, we need your help NOW MORE THAN EVER to fund our lobbying efforts and to keep the momentum through the end of session. If you or someone you know is in a position to donate, please share this newsletter and/or click the donate link below to help make this bill a reality!

In other news, we are excited to report that Congresswoman Susie Lee has joined the Psychedelics Advancing Therapies (PATH) Caucus, a bi-partisan caucus to explore psychedelic research for mental health.

The goals of the PATH Caucus will be to:

  • seek to increase awareness among members of Congress, their staff, and the media of evidence-based psychedelic science and research based on FDA-approved clinical trials psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy (PaT)
  • hold regular briefings on Capitol Hill to keep members of Congress and their staff informed of the latest psychedelic science and research news
  • support increased federal funding for psychedelic science, medicine, and R&D and champion other legislative policies and priorities of importance to the research and science community
  • highlight priorities on behalf of interested members of Congress to external stakeholders and the Executive branch
  • convene bipartisan thought leaders to educate Congress on the evidence around the research and science

We are incredibly grateful for Congresswoman Lee's attention to this important issue and her willingness to take a stand for mental health in our state. Learn more about PATH Caucus here.

As we continue to work with our legislators to revise outdated drug policy, we celebrate the growing body of research that continues to emerge, along with the lives that are being saved by these medicines (scroll down to see a recent episode on the Huberman Lab podcast with Dr. Robin Carhart-Harris). We are so grateful to all of you for your willingness to take a stand for healing and for spreading the word. Nevada Coalition for Psychedelic Medicines is growing exponentially! Thank you for uniting with us in raising awareness and affecting change. Your willingness, dedication, and participation in this growing movement makes all the difference!

In gratitude,

The NCPM Team

In this episode, Dr. Huberman speaks with Robin Carhart-Harris, PhD, distinguished professor of neurology and psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco. Carhart-Harris is one of leading researchers in the study of how psychedelics such as psilocybin, LSD and DMT can change the human brain and in doing so, be used to successfully treat various mental health challenges such as major depression, anorexia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and addiction.
