Educate                          Empower                       Enlighten

Dear Friends,
In the holiday classic  The Polar Express, young children ride a magical train toward the North Pole. They begin their journey doubting, but gain confidence as they explore friendships and look deep into themselves for true Christmas spirit. During their journey, they discover much about their faith, the true meaning of Christmas, and how "the wonder of life never fades for those who believe."
During this joyous Christmas season and new year, let us rediscover our childhood innocence, rekindling a spirit of wonder and belief. Let us look to the Child for a new light, a belief in God's grace and divine love for us. Let the season find us with a renewed hope in Jesus' coming.
Wishing you and your families tidings of peace and joy!

SBA collected $600 for Toys for Tots this year!  The toys were blessed at the Saint Nicholas Divine Liturgy.

Over sixty accepted students and their families gathered for our second annual Accepted Families Night on December 7th.  With a scavenger hunt led by our hospitality and student council members, the accepted students had their first adventure as a class.  The laughter and thumping footsteps in the halls only added to the positive energy in the parent presentation.  Parents were presented with a deeper insight into the mission of Saint Basil Academy and its focus on "educating the whole person".  Many reveled in the fact that their daughters would be pushed academically, spiritually, socially and individually the next four years.  Teachers, staff, coaches, and parents were all in attendance to offer perspective and answer any questions.  Congratulations again to the Class of 2022!

SBA families enjoyed visiting NYC on Friday, December 8 to celebrate the Christmas season New York style!

Our Track Team traveled to Ursinus College on December 8 to compete against schools from all over the state of Pennsylvania.  Tia Taylor set a new school record in winning the long jump at 18 ft, 1 inch.  Sasha Lee placed third with a jump of 17ft, 1 inch also breaking the old school record.  Jayla Bernard placed second with a new school record in the Triple Jump.  The girls have qualified for the State Championship Meet. These outstanding accomplishments have placed them among the top athletes in the state. Congratulations! Watch the Tia Taylor's interview below:

Our thanks to Dr. Emily Wilson, University of Pennsylvania Professor in the Department of Classical Studies and Chair of the Program in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory for visiting SBA.  Dr.  Wilson spent some time discussing her recently published book, The Odyssey: A New Translation.  Dr Wilson is the first female translator of The Odyssey in the English language.  After her presentation, the floor was opened to questions.  The excitement and interest was evident by the remarks of the students.

The musical groups at SBA provided  another beautiful Christmas Concert on Wednesday night, December 13.  These talented students  sang  and played music to enhance the spirit of Christmas for  their  audience.   Thank  you to all who came to support our program.

Seniors were treated to the annual Victorian Tea!  They enjoyed a wide array of Christmas treats prepared and donated by Parents' Club.  The seniors welcomed the quiet time away in the library which had been transformed into a festive and elegant setting complete with china teacups, red and green table clothes and Christmas music.  Our thanks to the Parents' Club--Meghan Campion, Isabella Douglas, Phyllis Hutchinson, Pam Hostetier, Anne Westervelt and Cathy Davis(not pictured)-- for making this day memorable for the seniors! A big thank you to Carol Abel from the counseling department also.

On Saturday, 12/16, Tess White, Marykate Johnston, and Jenn Rossiter participated in the National Wreaths Across America ceremony. The girls volunteered at Philadelphia National Cemetery, laying wreaths as a remembrance of those who served our country.
