SBA Responds to AfA Member Financial Assistance Inquiry
Have you responded to our coronavirus forwarder impact survey?
Following the recent presidential proclamation banning travel from Europe and the UK last week, we made an inquiry to
the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to determine if there would be financial assistance available to our members. Last night, we received this response and wanted to share it with you this morning so please let us know your feedback and questions. We will continue to monitor the situation and relay more information concerning available financial assistance to freight transportation providers as received.
Also, as a reminder, many members have responded to our
Coronavirus Travel Ban Impact on Forwarders Survey. If you have not had an opportunity, please do so today. AfA will share the anonymized results with the media, regulators, lawmakers and of course, the White House here in Washington.
Despite the isolation due to the coronavirus, our staff remains on the job and is here to assist and receive member feedback. We look forward to hearing from members and assisting where possible.
Received from the SBA:
The U.S. Small Business Administration is offering designated states and territories low-interest federal disaster loans for working capital to small businesses suffering substantial economic injury as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Upon a request received from a state's or territory's Governor, SBA will issue under its own authority, as provided by the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act that was recently signed by the President, an Economic Injury Disaster Loan declaration.
Any such Economic Injury Disaster Loan assistance declaration issued by the SBA makes loans available to small businesses and private, non-profit organizations in designated areas of a state or territory to help alleviate economic injury caused by the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
For information on the application process for Economic Injury Disaster Loan Please visit: www.SBA.gov/disaster.
