December 3, 2018
Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am writing with deep concerns about the parking lot and student drop-off and pick-up. The situation in the parking lot has become increasingly unsafe. What we have been experiencing is the following:
  • At dismissal, a line of cars that extend from the doors of the building all the way down the corner of the lot and down the driveway. Cars CANNOT park alongside the curb beyond the end of the parking lot into the driveway. If the line is long, please pull into a parking spot and wait for your daughter.
  • Drivers who block other cars from exiting because they are parked alongside the curb rather than in parking spots. Please find a parking spot and wait for your daughter to exit. Cars that have been loaded MUST be able to merge and exit.
  • Extremely inpatient drivers who lack courtesy in speaking to the staff when they are helping direct traffic.
  • Making U-turns through the parking spaces. NO ONE should cut through parking spaces to make U-turns! There are drivers who are entering in the oncoming lanes and we have barely missed having accidents occur. ALL DRIVERS must loop around to exit.
  • Leaving a car parked alongside the curb, running and unattended while you enter the building. Do not leave your car unattended at any time.
  • Driving faster than 5 miles an hour in the lot without being aware of the cars or buses that need to pull out and merge to exit AND students, faculty and staff who are crossing.

I ask that everyone review the car line and pickup expectations and abide by them so that ALL OF OUR STUDENTS and drivers ARE SAFE as they enter and exit the building. Follow the directional arrows on the ground in the lot for exiting to ensure that you are in the correct lane and moving in the right direction.

If you need to pick up your daughter promptly, please park in the parking spot and have your daughter come to you. If not, I ask for your patience for 10-15 minutes every day at dismissal so that everyone is safe.

If your daughter has an injury and is on crutches or has an arm/shoulder injury and needs help with carrying a schoolbag, please drop her off at the front door and we will buzz her in. This way, you can leave your car parked at the front door and help your daughter to enter the building without blocking the rest of the traffic flow.

I appreciate your cooperation as we work together to ensure student safety.
