Visit by Bishop Andriy Rabiy
Our thanks to Apostolic Administrator for the Ukrainian Catholic Church in the US, Bishop Andriy Rabiy, who visited Saint Basil Academy today. Students enjoyed sharing their subject knowledge with him as he visited their classrooms. Bishop Andriy is fulfilling the administrative duties of the Metropolitan as we await the appointment of the new Metropolitan Archbishop.
Social Justice Symposium
On Thursday, October 25, a group of Saint Basil Academy students attended the Social Justice Symposium at Manor College. They truly benefited from the presentations given by the 3 dynamic speakers. The theme this year was homelessness. They heard presentations from a hearing officer for the Philadelphia School System, Covenant House and a journalist from the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The History Club held their annual fall field trip to Philadelphia. In the morning, the girls traveled back in time to medieval Scandinavia at the Franklin Institute to see the new Vikings Exhibit, where they were exposed to medieval artifacts, recreations of Norse mythology, interactive exhibits, and a full size replica of a Viking Ship. After lunch, the history club split into teams to complete in an early Philly themed Founding Fathers scavenger hunt that took the girls all around Old City!
Sign Language Prayer
Mrs. Stanton's sophomore Religion class prays the Our Father in sign language.
Physics students use a wireless interface and a force sensor to measure the strength with which the earth pulls on objects. These 2 items (among others) were funded by the STEM grant the Academy received last year.
AP U.S. Government
In AP U.S. Government, students are studying federalism. Student worked in groups to complete a breakout.edu lesson, a virtual version of an escape room. They competed to be the first group to successfully find all the locks and breakout within the allotted time. Clues to the locks were embedded within lessons and online quizzes about federalism.
Saint Basil Academy once again came together for Pink Day and cancer awareness. Thank you to all who contributed! We raised $300.00 which was donated to The Breathing Room Foundation.
Halloween at Saint Basil Academy did not disappoint this year! Impersonators could be found traveling throughout the halls. The day would not have been complete without the faculty dance with a number of selections from Grease!
